My teeth are strong like bull. But, my gums aren't super. My new dentist keeps pushing the electric toothbrush. They think I'm weird when I told them I didn't want a lot of needlessly powered tools. But, maybe I'll get one.

They also don't like amalgam and convinced me to replace two fillings with that cured epoxy resin stuff (matched in color to your teeth). One has never felt right after that. They'll probably determine the epoxy is toxic some day.

I was not aware of cavitations before! I had all four of my wisdom pulled when I was 17, and according to their studies I have an 88% probability of having these anaerobic bacteria infections similar to "blood soaked sawdust" and "green fatty globules" lurking in my gums.

And the only way to find out for sure is to have my mucosa drilled open?

Are there holistic dental surgeons that specialize in this? I'm having flashbacks to my pre-amalgam removal days lol.

Thanks for bringing attention to this.

you can have an ultra sound done on your jaw
there's a special machine which does this called cavitat. There's not a lot of dentists that do this, so you might have to travel some distance to find one.

This page has some good information on the subject, along with some more scary pictures of cavitations.

I probably should have made this more clear when I posted. Research everything yourself ! For example letting your local dentistry drill amalgam fillings out can release a huge amount of mercury into your system, research yourself and find dentists which specialise in amalgam removal (etc).

My father is a dentist and taught dentistry for many years. I have one gold foil filling. Gold foil is an extinct technique (my Dad was one of the last people who did them in the US).

I have no other fillings.

I got a fancy expensive ulrta-sound tooth-brush as a gift, and i dont like it at all. I end up spending 5 minutes each time and have a feeling that i am not done. Its really annoying to have your teeth vibrate along with the brush. Is it even healthy?

wow, love those gnarly pictures. it's sort of like doomer porn.

my mail-person has a meth person in her life, so i finally got an answer to a question. do meth people have bad teeth because of the meth, or because they stop taking care of their teeth ?

she says the meth changes the saliva or something.

i suspect not flossing in between tweaking runs might have something to do with it.

US issues health warning over mercury fillings

They're in millions of mouths worldwide, but have been linked to heart disease and Alzheimer's. Now a report concedes they may have a toxic effect on the body

By Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor

Amalgam dental fillings – which contain the highly toxic metal mercury – pose a health risk, the world's top medical regulatory agency has conceded.

After years of insisting the fillings are safe, the US government's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a health warning about them. It represents a landmark victory for campaigners, who say the fillings are responsible for a range of ailments, including heart conditions and Alzheimer's disease.

Polemic, you aren't attempting rational thought and critical thinking are you ? There should be laws against those. Mercury is good for you, and you should not think otherwise.

I'd like to get my big fillings out. But a root canal and crown cost $1800 per pop. I keep buying lotto tickets but no luck as yet.

Go on a "med-vacation" in Thailand, Malaysia or India. You will get a vacation plus cheap medical work done there (by their best medical personnel ).

I would much rather have a big mercury filling (and I do have many) than a root-canal filled tooth (still have two of those.)

I had two other endodontically-treated teeth (root canals) extracted about 6 months ago. OMG has my health improved since then.

It's either composite filling, or pull the tooth.

I became suspicious when I had a cavity which appeared small and he took the whole cusp cavity off and filed it, two years later he said there was some under the cusp and topp the whole top off and filled it this happened a few times over twenty years. so I heard him say to his nurse, "when they hit fifty we give them caps"

so I left and got a new dentist.

Actually I got two

one I told him everything, he was friendly and I was ltelling him my job where I lived etc etc and he could tell I was not poor, dental insurance etc. And could afford anything.

First visit he said my teeth were fine. next visit on the repeat xrays (repeat xrays?) he said eventually I would need all my teeth capped within the next year, but it wouldn't have to be done right away.

This all sounded hoaky so I went to another dentist and didn't tell him I had been to any dentist recently and I looked like I couldn't afford it.

he did xrays again (I know, not good, but I wasn't going to blow the cover)

and he said I was doing pretty well

Asking if I needed any fillings, he said, no I will be fine if I brush and floss well.

I told him I needed a recheck but I hadn't been able to afford a dentist for a while, next visit he confirmed it (WITH MORE XRAYS)
but still no caps needed.

so I had two dentists, one stating my teeth were fine (he thought I was poor, and one who said I needed all caps. acted poor on the better news dentist.)

and one dentist who said I needed all caps who thought I was rich.

Moral of the story, there ARE shysters.

they can do whatever they want and no one calls them on it.

Bottom line, when you go to a dentist, go in a poor car in poor clothes and ask if they have payments for teeth cleening, then you may get real care.

And if they tell you you need a bunch of caps and your teeth dont even hurt, go womewhere else.

bunch of weasels.

Try going to an optometrist. Many will fit you with a new pair of eye glasses regardless of if you need them or not!

I had a similar experience here with my dentist.

"Lets schedule a visit every 6 months"

Per visit

1) Cleaning
2) Sand blasting
3) Coating the teeth with some petroleum based stuff ( to prevent cavities)
4) Some type of filling activity

After my last visit I got fed up. It is bad enough that over the last 2 years all his prices have been steadily going up, but he would always find some small cavity that needed filling AFTER all of the above were done a mere 6 months prior.

Plus I eat very little sugar based stuff and brush my teeth after every meal !!!!

Enough of this B.S.

I have started the peroxide regime after reading this thread. Also will go on to find a new dentist.

PPO Toothache: TEOTW?

Unread postby hermit » Sat 22 Nov 2008, 01:21:24

For two days I've had a toothache. This morning, it was so bad, I called my dentist to book an apointment for next week. Dentist wanted me in tomorrow, but I wanted to wait and see if it settled. No such luck. By end of day today, I had to leave work early. By the time I got home, I can hardly see. AFAICT, it's an old cap coming loose, revelaing a sensitive tooth stump.

I consider myself pain tolerant. After various surgeries in recent years, I rarely take more than a couple of the prescribed painkillers, stockpiling the rest.

Tonight, I've been desperately dipping into my "stash". They say, take 1 every 4 hours. I've been taking back 1 every 2 hours, and drinking 2 beers an hour. Pacing.

It hurts, but is dulled. My dentist is open tomorrow, and although he's not expecting me, I hope he can fit me in. Although in discomfort, I know this will be ok.

Enough whining.

All the time, I can't help but wonder how this would play out in a PPO scenario, without a dentist handy, without money to afford the care, without a liquor store nearby, or without a crisper full of unused painkillers.

I expect that I would be begging someone to knock me out with a bat, and pull the tooth with pliers by now. Were this not to happen, I'd be begging for a bullet in days. What's remarkeable is not just the pain, but it's abiltity to incapacitate. This isn't like walking on a twisted ankel, or working with a broken arm (done that).

This is right in your head and cuts your legs out from under you. It removes the ability to make any but the most basic decisions, and even those are oriented to the sole goal of ending the pain.

Food for thought. Start planning :-)
