I What's the state of the gunlaws in Finland?

Gun ownership is among the highest in the world, maybe third. This is due to the countryside tradition of having hunting rifles. I believe it is easier than many West European countries to get a gun licence, but I don't know the details.

You can't walk around the streets armed though.

The police held a press conference. There are now 8 people dead. Amongst the causalities there are 5 male students and 2 female students and the principle. Then the shooter shot himself to head when the police arrived and he is now in critical condition and most likely won't make it.

I wonder how the "survival of the fittest" ideology fits in shooting oneself to head?

There was today a horrible school shooting here in Finland, over 5 people are dead, including principle.

It made CNN news: CNN: Gunman caught after school death

The shooter was a complete psyco. Here's his Youtube profile: Sturmgeist89 (* Accoring to news sources, he worshipped Stalin and Hitler and mumbled something about survival of the fittest. He copied his ideas from a recent school shooting in USA. Wikipedia entry in English.

The shooter is now dead. It seems he had shot himself in the head, but only died some hours later in hospital.

9 in total have died: 5 boys, 2 girls, 1 middle-aged woman (the school's head teacher) and the shooter himself.

Nor can you it seems. And yes, it speaks volumes of a society that breeds such utter ignorance. I am astounded that an intellect can hold two such divergent figues in one equation.

Yeah, one of the teachers said he had known him for 10 years - like since he was 8. If you get out of the few cities in Finland, it's really small town life.

I think the background to this will become clearer in the next weeks.
