Whereas in fact forums predates the web through usenet (which had (or has) the added benefit of a topic oriented forums namespace not owned by anyone).
Forums are to me a key building blocks of this 2.0 thing.

Forums suffer from one serious drawback. Say you want to find out about planting lots of fruit trees in a small yard. Google may hit a few useful webpages if you use the correct terms but it will mostly be the same source material reformatted on various pages. I can think of a half dozen forums that have discussed this in detail giving recommendations and answering questions but none of the forums will come up in the google searches. There is a crap load of useful info buried in forums but it's impossible to locate. Just look at how many times the planning for the future forum has been reworked trying to make the good info easy to access.

Twitter solves this problem by preventing the entry of useful info in the first case.

lol, good one :) , when I want to find info in forums using Google, I usually add "forum" in the word list and it works quite well, also depends how the forums are open to the Google and other search engine bots. In fact if "forums" were a search result category (such as images, or added to the usenet Google groups search results) would be quite good.

Just another process to keep the people mindlessly busy and less interested in the events around them, and, for TPTB to have an additional source of information.

If the government didn't support twitter and it's application, then television news personalities would be writing up stories about how people are getting raped and murdered due to tweets, instead of basically having an orgasm whenever they talk about it.

I too am feeling punished by the constant push of Twitter in the MSM. WTF? They either love to say the words, "Tweet" or "Twitter" (In Aussie, "Twitta") or they are looking to look hip, fashionable, and tech saavy. Whatever it is, it seems they have something to gain because they are pushing it so hard. Not sure what it is yet though. Go away Twitter! Nobody likes you!

In the face of new media, MSM has for many years now been desperate to remain "relevant." So it's not that they're pushing twitter as much as they're overdoing it with not wanting to be left behind.

My very important TWIT of the day :
got up at 6:30
watched some c-span, bloomberg TV,
internet googled how to start sweet potato plants at home
went back to bed
woke up 11:30
fed ducks, chickens, put fly mask on horse
turned sprinklers on strawberries
piddled around with some fencing
went to work with son and dug 5 fence-post holes and concreted the posts(tried not to look at customer ladies gi-hugic boobs while she prattled on about some mindless bull-shit)
got home in time to see the dusty-doozer dog chewing on another young chicken, he apparently is not getting the message!
piddled about with some fencing
cooked and ate heaping serving of "mongolian" beef over leftover spaghetti, with salad greens from the garden and bud light with lime
watched some chris farley Youtube with the daughter and now here I is!
