Peak oil question

Unread postby _sluimers_ » Thu 15 Jul 2004, 18:23:15

Will the amount of oil spend on refining/security/pipelines gradually go up in percentages after peak oil?

I mean, after all those big wells have dried up, you have to drill smaller wells right? And smaller wells mean more rigs and pipelines right? Which also means more pipelines to protect. All of this costs more energy right? And this will go on forever as more and more rigs will need to be built that dig up less and less oil.

So what I'm trying to say. Is this going to be a catch 22 for the superpowers that need oil from halfway around the world? and that in the future we will see more and more frequently holes drilled in pipelines like not so long ago in Iraq?

You have a point, but I don't think securing more pipelines and building more rigs will cost enough energy to cause a catch-22. Could someone do the math on this?

With the proper rifle, a single sniper could protect almost 2 miles of pipeline...
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Snipers with the proper fifty cal for that type of range work with at least one partner, for range finding etc. so two can cover two miles. The record snipe was 2400 meters by a Canuck in Afghanistan, took more than one shot.

You observed it from the start
Now you’re a million miles apart
As we bleed another nation
So you can watch you favorite station
Now you eyes pop out your sockets
Dirty hands and empty pockets
Who? You!
