JODI EIA Divergence

JODI EIA Divergence thumbnail

The JODI August data came out Sunday. There are several holes in the JODI data as there are six countries that don’t report to JODI. But these countries are minor and I insert the EIA data for these countries. There were seven but the largest of these produces, Kazakhstan, is now reporting. Also because of the political nature of the data from Iran and Venezuela, I use EIA data for these two countries also. Iran reports about 1 million barrels per day more than either the OPEC MOMR or the EIA reports. Same for Venezuela except they only jack their production figures up by about half a million barrels per day.

All that being said I have noticed as of late that the JODI EIA divergence is getting larger. I have posted that divergence below. All JODI data in the charts below is after I have added the EIA numbers for six small producers and used EIA data for Iran and Venezuela.

The chart is World C+C according to JODI and the EIA. All JODI data is through August while all EIA data is only through June.

All data on all charts is is in thousand barrels per day.

JODI Wld vs EIA

Their OPEC data also shows a divergence:

Jodi Opec

Keep in mind that the OPEC MOMR data is Crude Only. I don’t know how much concentrate OPEC produces but about 2 million barrels per day seems reasonable. That would make the EIA data pretty close to the OPEC data.

The below chart is JODI an EIA Non-OPEC C+C.

JODI Non-OPEC thru Aug.

June saw the latest big divergence. The EIA has Non-OPEC C+C up by 588 thousand barrels per day while JODI has Non-OPEC C+C down by 23 kb/d. That is a difference of 611 thousand barrels per day.

To see what effect the USA is having on world oil production and the peak, I have plotted Non-OPEC less the USA for both JODI and the EIA:

JODI Non-OPEC Less USA

Here the difference is about the same. The EIA has Non-OPEC C+C up 727 kb/d in June while JODI C+C was up 92 kb/d for a difference of 634 kb/d.

The biggest divergence came from Russia and Canada. The EIA has Russia up by 287 bp/d in June while the JODI says they were up only by 63 kb/d. But by far the greatest difference was from Canada. The EIA says Canada was up 339 kb/d in June while JODI says they were down by 30 kb/d.
