I am not allowed to speak about peak oil in my school.

Nor am I allowed to speak about global warming, recycling, miles per gallon or any other green topic.

Is that a school directive, state or national…….and what would be the reason for such denial or censorship.
I’m guessing Christianity is freely advocated and encouraged in all departments of learning…..just surmising though. To me though it is somewhat more than alarming.

Revi, stay frosty, you won’t be there forever.

Revi, I was once enrolled in a Xian school for a (thankfully) short time, and I will never forget a teacher describing dinosaur bones as relics put there by Satan to ‘confuse man’ and draw our attention away from Jeebus. You know the world is only about 4000 years old and made in only 7 days and all of that….

I worked at a rural elementary school for 3 years, (took a break from high school) and taught Peak Oil as a part of science. I had to be very careful. One day I had a mother cry in the parking lot as she grasped the significance and thought about her children. Then, she got into her big-assed f-150 crew cab 4X4 and drove away. Her daughter graduates this year.

Back at High School I taught it as well. The kids thought I was little nuts, but that was okay. I did what I thought was right and my social responsibility. Administration let me do what I wanted as the outcomes were being met and I did my job without causing them any problems or issues.

Still glad to be retired!!! It grinds you down knowing about PO and having to walk a tightrope in the conventional world. The education field is absolutely full of conservative dummies. It is brutal. Rewarding and great working with young folks…but the system can go take a flying leap.

Paulo, I think about post-BAU education. There are still multiple one room school houses dotting the landscape in the Missouri Ozarks. Many were in use until the 60’s. People have moved into these quaint one room school houses and fixed them up. I then see the surreal modern school districts with their yellow busses and kids coming from all over half the county. Many kids drive their own vehicles. What a change will be ahead for this situation. It will be interesting to see how the system goes dysfunctional and what abandonment occurs. Schooling will naturally be a priority so expect it to be a focus of mitigation and adjustment policies. The big question is where will the money come from when economic decline sets in? Amazing times ahead for sure.
