A doomed doomsday prediction

Yet another study suggests families can fight climate change by reducing the number of children but a longtime skeptic calls it more scare-mongering.

The study published in Environmental Research Letters aligns with warnings that Earth can only survive climate change if people have fewer children, avoid automobiles and airline travel, and switch to a plant-based diet.

“They don’t want human beings left to themselves to make free choices,” responds Climate Depot’s Marc Morano, a skeptic of claims of man-made climate change.

Morano, Marc (Climate Depot)It’s not a new idea. OneNewsNow reported in a May story that feminist icon Gloria Steinem is advocating for a smaller world population to prevent “climate deprivation,” or worsening of the Earth’s temperatures.

One of the most famous apologists is John Holdren, the Obama administration science advisor who warned in the 1970s that human development would doom the planet unless mothers aborted their children or used sterilization to prevent pregnancy.

pumping gas fuel costsWhen radio show host Glenn Beck pointed out Holdren’s controversial views at the time, the Politifact website ran to his defense to clarify that the authors weren’t advocating for measures such as sterilants in the water supply – only warning they could happen if people didn’t take advantage of birth control via abortion and sterilization.

Forty years before Holdren co-authored the “Ecoscience” textbook, Planned Parenthood founder Marget Sanger was preaching a similar message: prevent overcrowding the planet with undesirable races and the infirmed through birth control and sterilization, and by abortions and euthanasia.

pregnant woman handWhat such people envision for the rest of us, says Morano, is “bureaucratic central planning” led by people who consider themselves a “mastermind” to improve the world.

Morano points out that wealthy First World countries are already having less children.

“Analysts are now saying that populations are going to stabilize and actually decline in the next 50 to 100,” he adds. “This is more scare-mongering and it’s more about their agenda to try to social engineer human beings.”

Mississippi pastor Don Wildmon founded the National Federation for Decency in 1977 to fight what he saw as rampant indecency within the entertainment industry and the culture at large. In 1988, the organization changed its name to the American Family Association and has since become notorious for launching countless boycotts against companies, organizations and places that fail to promote its right-wing agenda.

Designated an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center in 2010, thanks largely to the views espoused by former spokesman Bryan Fischer, the AFA remains one of the most powerful Religious Right organizations operating today, with its radio arm, American Family Radio, broadcasting from stations in at least 40 states, and affiliated activists groups like One Million Moms and news outlets like OneNewsNow promoting its message on various fronts.

Almost 50,000 people evacuated nearly 500,000 hectares destroyed as massive British Colombia wildfire continues to grow entering it’s third week

“A seasoned British Columbia firefighter says he’s never seen anything like the fast-moving wildfire that is sweeping the area.”

“In total, there are now 375 Canadian soldiers along with 3,600 firefighters and emergency responders tackling the flames,”

“The province has spent C$117.9 million ($94.05 million) tackling the fires, whose numbers on Friday included 32 new ones since Thursday, Saini said.”

Historically, August is the worst wildfire month in BC. More to come. Thank Christ the Canadian Forces are on the job to protect little ole me. If it was up to me, I would have a military draft and put all those disillusioned and unemployed youth to work. Build a climate change preparedness army instead of all this reacting after the fact which costs way more. It’s only going to get worse and same for the expenses. Homeland army shoring up the defenses. Many of the young men will find they like it – give them pride, propose and meaning.

There are currently six tropical storms in the Pacific. Three off the coast of Japan and three between Mexico and Hawaii. ALL on a more northerly track than usual. (Counterclockwise swirls.)

If you switch to the surface temp, you can see that they have plenty of energy source in a very warm ocean. (There have been none anywhere near the Ps this year … so far.)

BTW: If you live on the Atlantic side of the U$, you might notice that that warm ocean extends to New England.

Mountain pine beetle bug kill forest a result of warmer winters in British Columbia interior. These dead trees are a powder keg when ignited, the fire devours everything in its path. Many homes lost and people displaced. My gratitude goes out to those on the front line.

My own sense in the short run — strangely enough, the most dangerous thing facing us isn’t the extinction scenario, since that’s centuries in the future. What scares me more is the economic effect of simple sea-level rise. CNN did a very interesting article some years ago about how much it would cost to retrofit ports around the world for a six-foot sea-level rise. It’s literally trillions of dollars. Not only docks, but every airport facing the ocean—Sydney, China, San Francisco especially.

Secondly there’s the effect on human food. If there’s a six-foot sea-level rise, it’s astonishing how much food will be wiped out — most rice is in low-lying areas, for instance

” the most dangerous thing facing us isn’t the extinction scenario”

The problem with this statement is that extinctions do not occur in a vacuum. With each extinction, an intricate link in the chain of life is broken and nobody knows at which point the entire ecosystem implodes as a consequence.
