Nigeria: Black Market Fuel Prices Increase Astronomically

Prices of fuel sold at black markets in Abuja yesterday rose astronomically as the marketers capitalised on the long queues at major filling station to exploit motorists.

Prices at satellite towns and the city centre rose from N100 a litre to about N300 to N350 depending on the location.
In satellite towns, such as Nyanya, Kubwa and Karu, our reporters observed that most filling stations did not operate.

Black marketers were seen at various petrol stations carrying petrol in jerry cans and openly soliciting for buyers of their products.

Motorists that could not afford to queue or had less fuel in their vehicles bought the fuel at N350 per litre at the city centre while at places like Nyanya, a litre sold for N300.

Some motorists complained that the fuel might have been mixed to provide enough quantity for sale.
