I suppose it’s how one spins the story: did they voluntarily choose to cut consumption or were they burning all the NG that was being delivered…which wasn’t as much as they would consume if it were available. IOW was the decrease due to reducing consumption or not being supplied with the NG they need?

    Surprise, surpise!

Every landfill can produce methane, biofuels and recycled raw materials for new products.

Time for the Ukraine to embrace alternative fuels.

Wind, solar, wave energy, geothermal and second generation biofuels made from algae, cellulose and waste all can be produced locally and do not need to be imported from Russia.

There is something to be said for self sufficiency and diversification.

I wonder if there’s any correlation to the million or so people that have fled to Russia, and the towns and cities that Kiev has reduced to rubble.

Greg – Good point. Especially how much NG consumption was reduced by factories being shut down.

GregT, you are correct. Industry is down. Many users of gas are gone, either dead (thousands) or relocated into Russia. And, not being able to get any gas from Russia is also a factor that is only going to get worse. I hope Russia holds out for a payoff of past due payments before considering lifting the ban. And then at a much higher price. That is, after Ukraine splits into two countries. (Not including the Crimea)
