China establishes renewable energy center

China establishes renewable energy center

The Chinese government on Thursday announced the establishment of a renewable energy policy research center as part of the country’s efforts to realize sustainable growth for the world’s second-largest economy.

The China National Renewable Energy Center (CNREC) will study and write development strategies and conduct research concerning renewable energy policies, as well as carry out cooperative programs with the international community, government officials said at an opening ceremony for the center.

The center will also help authorities create a “developmental roadmap” for photovoltaic power, wind power, biofuel and other renewable resources, as well as collect and analyze data to be used by energy policymakers.

“To solve the problems facing the renewable energy industry, we must come up with policies and measures that are suitable for the sector,” Liu Qi, deputy head of the National Energy Administration, said at the opening ceremony.

Liu, who is reported to be the first chairman of the center’s seven-member management committee, said the center will come up with solutions in key fields such as quota distribution and renewable energy-fueled electricity generation.

Funding for the center will come mainly from government allocations and the Sino-Danish Renewable Energy Development Program, a five-year project jointly developed by the Chinese and Danish governments.

China has become the world’s biggest investor in renewable energy sources, investing more than 300 billion yuan (47.62 billion U.S. dollars) in renewable energy sources in 2010.

Go China! That will make PV panels cheaper for the rest of us. Use our Walmart dollars wisely before we turn them into Charmin with Bennie’s printing press. It’s the Asian Century.

One look at China’s emulation of our cars-only transportation system, and love of coal-fired powered, means this effort will only be a drop in the drop of a bucket. Since air-quality in most chineses cities should be graded by how thick the air is, you know..solid, semi-solid, runny etc, it should be pretty clear w/e china thinks, green energy just isnt helping the situation any. Even worse(for china), cleaner energy wont have the density to allow china to be the worlds low-cost producer of shoddy plastic salad shooters. It might keep people warm and the lights on mostly, but factory of the world…no.

And the US answer to depletion? Drill baby
drill! or send in the military. Facts do not change
being facts because you ignore them. Who is more prepared?

It’s too bad most people don’t realize they out subsidized us many times over to win over those future manufacturing jobs. Our system doesn’t allow subsidized failures, especially in solar…

Maybe their system is actually better than that practiced in the West? Looks like they will have the resources to continue when the US is declaring Marshal Law and trying to keep their own people from armed revolt.

I buy a lot of things from China. Few from the US. As do most Americans. Difference is,I pay less because it does not travel across the Pacific and a continent to get to my store here in Manila.

China is making huge investments in alternative energy sources especially wind and solar. They see these as the growth industries of the future and want to not only supply energy for themselves but want to supply the world. China is also promoting electric vehicles. They offer subsidies for electric vehicles and are making big investments in battery technology and electric vehicles. China is making investments in what they see as the technologies of the future and want to build the companies that will supply those technologies to the world and employ Chinese labor to produce them. China has a huge population and want to make sure that they can get a job. They seem to have a policy to try to balance population, resources and jobs.
