I'd only had a run in or two with him. Barely knew the guy, unfortunately, despite the amount of time we've both spent here recently.

I'd like to say that you'll be with us shortly once you get back on your feet, but given PO and the economic crisis, it seems that we'll have more people going out like you did.

How long until Peak Peak Oil? 8O

Good night and good luck.

As I mentioned before, some cell phones can be used as modems over the 3G phone network. My ATT Tilt will do that. It costs $20/mo extra to have unlimited data minutes over this network. Not the fastest thing in the world, but for text its fine.

So you tell me would you pay it?

I'm pretty sure you can get an unlimited long distance plan for like under $50 per month.

You can also connect by cell-phone. Even most pre-paid cell phones have unlimited nights.

It's understandable to want to cut down on a $170 bill, but there are other options that would actually put you under what you paid before ($75). I'm a big Netlfix fan.. for $18 bucks per month I can have 3 movies at a time, which is plenty tv viewing for me.

Also, I think BY LAW cable operators must cheaply offer a very basic service, which includes CNN, the local channels, and the CSPAN networks. They don't advertise this plan, you have to ask about it.

This is not really a TSHTF type issue. If anyone remember back around 1980 when AT&T had a national monopoly what were the average monthly phone bills adjusted for inflation? Of course there are regional monopolies, especially if you live in bumfuck USA, but what can ya do?

He can try IPoAC, but it's pretty inefficient.

IPoAC has been successfully implemented, but for only nine packets of data, with a packet loss ratio of 55%, and a response time ranging from 3000 seconds to over 6000 seconds.

A better method would be to use USB flash drives and have a pigeon fly over to the house of a friend who has an active connection to act as a relay for you.

Rafting photographers already use pigeons as a sneakernet to transport digital photos on flash media from the camera to the tour operator.[2] Over a 30 mile distance a single pigeon may be able to carry tens of gigabytes of data in around an hour, which on a purely bandwidth basis compares very favorably to current ADSL standards, even when accounting for lost drives.
