I'm starting to believe it was all a hoax.
Maybe not all. Just Apollo 11. My faith in the claim of the Apollo 11 landing has eroded a bit.
Scientists are still using the lunar laser ranging retroreflector array placed on the moon in 1969. This business of the petrified tree-rock is bizarre, but doesn't mean we did not land on the moon.
I'm not one of those who thinks that the moon landings were a hoax. But someone needs to quiz Buzz Aldrin about his gift of petrified wood.
WikiI mean, the rock in question is the kind of thing that a practiced minerologist would glance at and say, "Oh, that's peterified wood".
The piece that Aldrin gave the museum may not have been so obvious as this picture, but still... the rock would have been easily identifiable by anyone with any experience.
No practiced rock hounds at the museum ever peered closely at Aldrin's gift for 40 years?
