Heat Waves 2020

“Death Valley soars to 130 degrees, potentially Earth’s highest temperature since at least 1931”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/ ... %2C%201913.

“In the midst of a historic heat wave in the West, the mercury in Death Valley, Calif., surged to a searing 130 degrees on Sunday afternoon, possibly setting a world record for the highest temperature ever observed during the month of August. If the temperature is valid, it would also rank among the top-three highest temperatures ever reliably measured on the planet at any time and may, in fact, be the highest. The temperature in Death Valley hit 130 degrees at 3:41 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. If verified, the reading would break Death Valley’s previous August record by three degrees, the Weather Service tweeted. “Everything I’ve seen so far indicates that is a legitimate observation,” Randy Cerveny, who leads the World Meteorological Organization’s weather and climate extremes team, wrote in an email. “I am recommending that the World Meteorological Organization preliminarily accept the observation. In the upcoming weeks, we will, of course, be examining it in detail, along with the U.S. National Climate Extremes Committee, using one of our international evaluation teams.”

What could be the highest temperature ever reliably recorded on Earth - 130F (54.4C) - has been reached in Death Valley National Park in California.

The recording is being verified by the US National Weather Service.

And today might beat that record, since Death Valley was 114 F at 9am today; Same time yesterday was 107 F.

You are skipping over the best part, apparently hotter temperatures in the past are now meteorologically impossible, couldn’t have happened, doesn’t count, ignore them, only temperatures measured today are valid, global warming confirmed by denying the past! Learned this temperature revision “nature trick” from the Australians I suspect.

Death Valley famously holds the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth, which is 134 degrees. This record was set on July 10, 1913. However, that measurement is very much in question; an extensive analysis of that record conducted in 2016 by Christopher Burt, an expert on extreme weather data, concluded it was “essentially not possible from a meteorological perspective.

Foxnews weather local to phoenix was instructive to listen to (don't even know how I got to that website actually).

The number of days with excessive heat is exceeding the record of 7 with 11 days already and still more to go.

Yet, Foxnews doesn't believe in 'global warming', so you figure that out.

They flashed the number of '115 F' so I guess that's what they mean by an 'excessive heat day'.

If that's the case, then '110 F' is not excessive heat to them, whereas in California it is.

In the Mojave Desert or Death Valley, an excessive heat day must be 120 F or 130 F, but I don't know anyone who lives there anyway.

(Thinking about this, this is the result of the absence of the aerosol masking effect, and not totally due to global warming per se).

Well, aerosol masking effect or not:

California’s Heat Wave Just Set a Global Temperature Record
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-08-18/californians-sweat-in-the-dark-underneath-a-weakened-jet-stream

Is that a business publication or just a 'liberal' business publication, I don't know, but it's getting awfully hard to disavow climate change when the evidence is all around you.

“These are things we have in the projections for mid-century, not 2020,” said Nik Steinberg, head of research at Moody’s Four Twenty Seven, an analytics company that provides climate risk assessments for business and government. “They are becoming part of the norm and happening much quicker than anticipated.”

The first seven months of 2020 were the second warmest on record going back some 141 years, according to the National Centers for Environmental Information. In April, Florida baked under summer-like temperatures; Siberia has been setting heat records all summer; and the U.S. Southwest has sweltered under a high pressure system that’s kept the region’s annual monsoon at bay.

Biden-Harris are backing away from the climate pledges they made while campaigning...now they want to ENCOURAGE oil production, including continuing federal subsidies for oil production

-democrats-wavering-on-oil-subsidies-biden-harris-climate-platform-fluid-

That was quick. Usually the Ds say the right thing but then do the opposite. Apparently with Biden and Harris they aren't even going to bother to say the right thing----they're going to flip-flop immediately and go all in on supporting the FF industry.

That means.....more heat waves are coming and global warming will never be stopped.

Its what I've been predicting all along.....ever since Obama flip-flopped and derailed the Copenhagen Climate Treaty way back in 2009. That sealed our climate doom.

Now its 12 years later and nothing has been done to stop climate change....just as I predicted.

Now its too late.......just as I predicted.

SO be it.

We gave it a good run.

The planet was fun while it lasted.

But now its too late.

Don't be sad. The next ice age is going to come in 50k years. It will be alright. Glaciers as far south as NYC.

Actually based on current CO2 levels even if civilization crashed today and we stopped adding to the quantity the next major glaciation won't happen for another full cycle. Something like 175,000 years from now, not 50,000.

I lived in Berkeley California for several years back in the day......and nothing like the record heat wave, dangerous levels of smoke, days of chain lightning and huge thunderstorms, and massive wildfires we're seeing now ever happened back then.

And still the heat wave continues.

I think this is it.....this is the year that the weather and heat and wildfires in California all move totally beyond the range of normal and into the brave new world of the global warming climate. It started in Australia with unprecedented wildfires burning everywhere.....then it shifted to Siberia with unprecedented heat waves......we've had the hottest ever temperature in Death Valley and record highs in Europe and across the globe.

This means we're finally seeing it.

This is the end.

This is the beginning of the end.

Global warming is just going to get worse and worse from here, and its already too gaddamn hot in many many places.

Its been grand, but its all just going to get hotter from here.

My neighbour is Jehovah Witness.
He is telling that pending burning of California and all other carnages there are God's wrath and repetition of Sodom and Gomorrah destruction.
He is also quite certain that in coming few years the most magnificent earthquake ever will finish the job and America liberated from its most diseased part will get a chance to become great again.

"The day California went dark was a crisis years in the making"

More blackouts are expected in California in the future. They need more energy generation capacity, imports, and efficiency to avoid them.

some strategies to mitigate peak demand during heat waves and other issues:

“Amid California’s heatwaves and fires, ‘world’s largest’ battery project is being switched on”
https://www.energy-storage.news/news/am ... ct-is-bein

"Gateway is 230MW / 230MWh. In other words, it can discharge for one hour at 230 megawatts power. And that is phase 1. We are already expanding it to ~3 hours discharge capacity for next summer, then eventually its full capacity of 4 hours after that," the representative said…LS Power announced yesterday that Gateway Energy Storage, in East Otay Mesa in the southern part of San Diego, is at 230MW of lithium-ion batteries but is on track to be up to 250MW in output size by the end of August…and SCE awarded 770MW of battery contracts to help replace ageing natural gas plants. These developments seemingly cannot come soon enough for California, which is suffering at the moment from heatwaves, storms, wildfires and power shortages at times of peak demand on its networks. Industry figures have called for the rapid deployment of battery storage, particularly storage charged from solar, to help remedy the situation from an energy supply and resilience perspective.”

Natural variability trumps climate change/global warming again? "Coldest in 50 years" would seem to suggest a long-term climate cycle and not climate change and that global warming is far less significant than earth's natural climate cycles which are largely ignored by Climate Alarmists who revel in la température du jour.

Snow rarely ever falls this early in the Lazio region.
Snow fell on the hills and mountains in the greater Rome area and in the Lazio region as temperatures plummeted over the weekend, reports Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Falls of snow were recorded at Monte Livata (near Subiaco), Cervara di Roma, Ciociaria, Campocatino and Forca d’Acero, in the area of S. Donato Valcomino, where Lazio meets the Abruzzo region.

Temperatures plunge suddenly as Italy battered by torrential rain.
Italy's incessant rain and sudden drop in temperature in recent days have resulted in the country's coldest September for 50 years, reports Italian media.

Over the weekend, temperatures in Italy plunged by between 10 and 15 degrees, leading to snow falls much earlier than usual.

The spell of bad weather, triggered by a belt of cold air from northern Europe, has been particularly intense in Milan and Turin which recorded 5°C and 4°C degrees respectively on the night of Sunday 27 September.

Wow, that was quite a display of stupidity, even for you, jawa my friend

You know, there's a reason it's called GLOBAL Warming, not local warming, right??

And you do know that this thread is called 'Heat Waves' not cold waves, so your post is also off topic here, right?
