Techno-Fixes - why they fail to solve our problems

Techno-Fixes - why they fail to solve our problems

Here's an interview with Dr. Michael Huesemann that posits that "techno-fixes" do not solve our long-term environmental issues, but make them worse. His logic is complicated but reasonably understandable. Let's get your feedback.

An excellent interview from the Extraenvironmentalist with Dr. Michael Huesemann, author of Techno-Fix, focusing on "technological optimism" and why technological solutions have failed to solve our long-term problems with resource scarcity and environmental degradation.

A technological fix means expanding technology which means taking space on a finite planet. Exponential growth is possible only towards up , to space.

Technology has actually already cleaned up a few environments already. Lets give credit where credit is due. Rivers used to catch on fire in Chicago and the sir in London was so smoggy with coal smog that people would literally walk into walls because the couldn't see more than a few inches in front of them.

Actually I'm in Istanbul right now.

You are having another one of your wacked out fantasies. Istanbul is definitely NOT a suburb in America---it's not scrubbed its not clean. Its not even on the same continent as America

.I wonder what you do by plane that you couldn't accomplish by Skype?

You can't "Skype" culture, history, people and real life experiences, starry. You (and most typical Americans) are content to experience the world only by sitting on a sofa and watching their TVs or Skype. I'd rather have the actual real world experiences :)

Most of your posts are stupid, inaccurate or delusional ---often all at once----on the rare occasion there is something sensible I respond to that 8)

The planes are flying anyway, full of utter ignoramus, dreamers, business people and whatnot. I doubt any airline will stop flying because Planty decides to plant his butt somewhere.

You appear to have a habit of accusing everyone of this. Is it because you cannot refute the political points Plantagenet makes and therefore have to change the topic? The embarrassment of having voted for Obama shouldn't be an excuse to dismiss the valid criticism Plantagenet makes in quite a coherent fashion...versus your characterization of his behavior.

You've just proved my point

I didn't respond to your nutty question because your question is stupid, wrong and delusional.

I never attacked Obama for my air travel

Your question just makes no sense-- you are all wee-wee'd up again over something that didn't even happen---but here we are wasting time on yet another one of your nutty delusional claims.

Sheesh

This thread has nothing to do with Obama or any other politician TBH. If you've listened to the link it's IMO very informative and the German scientist has some interesting points to make about the scientific ignorance of some nations.

How we got onto Obama god only knows, (if he existed that is!) (God that is!) :-D

London's air was incredibly polluted in the 19th
Century. The pollution came from home heating with coal --- every home hAd a little coal stove then. As heating technology evolved thanks to little things like the invention of electricity air quality also improved there
