PO.com made it on main Austrian News Site

I was quite surprised to find an article about "the global fight for oil" on the main Austrian news site http://www.orf.at
The status of the ORF (austrian broadcasting corporation) in Austria is about the same as the BBC in the UK.

They talked about a new book "black book oil" by Thomas Seifert and Klaus Werner. They mentioned Peak Oil although they think it is around 2030 - the main issue for the article is that with the peaking of non-OPEC oil the industrial nations could be blackmailed by the OPEC. They even mentioned Colin Campbell "the oil cassandra" as they called him. They have a lot to learn...

The second article was about Irans planned oil bourse, and there it was, a link to a PO.com thread in geopolitics!! (Click on second picture above and scroll down)

I like to flatter myself that they found this site through me, since I linked many times to it on debates about oil on the orf website. But of course it could be that they lurked since longer here, or that they just did a google search on peak oil....

In case there are any Austrian lurkers here, please register and send me a message!!

Lol, care for a translation? I have no barbie-doll, and what the hell is a shrimp? Or is barbie a short version of barbecue and I should put a shrimp on it to celebrate?

A Jim Carrey joke from the movie 'Dumb and Dumber'. He's a dumb guy who meets a woman from Austria and mistakes it for Australia. You got the barbie part right, a shrimp is a little animal from the ocean that taste good. :-D G'day, mate. (thanks for telling us about the news from Austria)

Thanks Penultimate, I learned something new! About the Australia-part: That's why I always wear a T-shirt abroad which says:"This superior body was made in Austria" - with a crossed out kangaroo beneath...

Hunting banned in parts of Austria due to hailstones storm

Unread postby eXpat » Sun 25 Oct 2009, 23:07:38

That´s the hell of weird weather!!! Hail yes, but like that?

Hunting banned in parts of Austria after hailstones kill 90pc of wild game
Hundreds of deer were discovered either dead or so badly injured they had to be put down by wildlife experts.

In the country's rural Salzburg province, 90 per cent of pheasants and 80 per cent of hares were killed in the hail storms.
Sepp Eder, the hunting chief, said : "Animals sought shelter in farms, in fields of grain but the hail was so heavy it smashed right into them. It may take five years for animal numbers to recover, if they ever do so."

Farmers are believed to have suffered more than £60 million in damages to crops and buildings.
