Time to downsize the car

I knew nothing of this, until I saw the picture in the BBC which says it is road-legal:

I looked it up...it was cheap retailing in 1962 for £199

No freaking way should that be legal for the road,, its so low to the ground that you can't see it,, even a motorcycle/moped sits up higher and would be safer.

Try somthing like that here in America and you will be spam in a can real fast...

About 8.000 "CityEl", small electric vehicles, have been produced since 1991. Many of those are running on the streets as regular vehicles. Until today not a single casuality has been reported...

We drive this electric car around town (it's only legal in the 35 mph zone).

It's really fun to drive:

Here's a quick time movie about it:

Revi. I have looked at that a number of times. amd dreamed about getting one. IF I had money to burn then I might seriously consider it (not sure what shipping costs and local taxes would do to the overall price, or even if it would be road legal here). However, funds must go first to getting the house in order (and paying down debt), so it stays on the dream list.

It does look as if it would be good for this area - small island so not far to go, with lots of sun (at least for this far north).

Except Germany doesn't have big-ass SUVs. If you drove that thing around Texas, you'd be dead meat.

You will get more improvements to energy efficiency with regard to a car by streamlining it than by downsizing it, at least with regard to speeds > 30 mph.
The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the old growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder. ~Thomas Jefferson
