News posting went just fine again, thanks!

server response issue

Unread postby lonewolf » Thu 26 Apr 2007, 13:28:30

Over the past several weeks now, PO's server response time has been distressingly slow. However, today I waited 5 minutes to connect to forum 43 (conservation and efficiancy) and after several simmilar attempts at this sub-forum and a few others I never did connect to a page. It took over a minute to connect to this page. This site has basically become unaccessible for me. I'm not going to wait even a minute - NTM five- just to see what's been posted. I'm attempting to connect via Safari under OS 10.4.9 for those who might need to know such mundane (irrelevant, imo) things.

It loads slower than any other page I access. This is using IE7 and Firefox 2.0 on a 30mbps Fiber Optic Commercial grade internet connection.

It's slow for me too, and has been for a while.

Ditto for me on the slowness. Been bad lately. I do note there are now routinely 100's of visitors using the site which may have something to do with it.

Pretty much - PO is the only site (out of hundreds visted frequently) that consistently responds this slowly - which is why I mentioned it. Figured by now someone else would have noticed also and posted OR it would have been resolved by now. It's only become noticeably worse with time.

Yeah it's pretty slow.

And since we are running a dual processor 3.0 GHz, & 4 gig RAM with SCSI drives, and memory & processor utilization is not excessive, I assume we are hitting a bandwidth cap at our host.

So they "limit" available bandwidth (speed of transmission) which causes long delays in browsing.

We have done more than an upgrade per year since we began this journey around 4 years ago, and it looks like we are due for another one.

Yikes!

Bear with us...

Aaron, a while back you mentioned something about it taking a long time for the menus to load. How about taking them down for a while and seeing what happens?

Do people actually use them that much?

Man! Big time!

I just spent a few minutes zooming around the forum. There were almost no delays at all.
