Actually Brazil has rejected socialism. Their ex President ruined Brazil with both his corruption and embrace of socialism.
The ex president, a full blown socialist, is in prison by the way. Something onlooker failed to tell you. This election is a breath of fresh air, leftie talking points notwithstanding.

South American Trump has been elected and the communist and socialists worldwide are in complete meltdown.

Make Brazil Great Again.

Brazil has turned into a hell hole. Paradise for murderous thugs. It's beyond fixing.

I suspect that’s about right. Seems to be a lot of flight to Miami from Brazil recently.

Socialism fails. That is why the voters in Brazil chose a different direction. Oh I get it. When people vote for socialism they are intelligent and farsighted. When they don't they are ignorant rubes. Yeah, like I don't hear that everyday right here on this board.

Went to Brazil about 12 years ago. Rio was like 80% slums. Beautiful country but it's a shithole.

Nearly half of the most violent cities in the world are in Brazil.

So when socialism doesn't work, jingle some keys and quickly point at something else?

Sure. That's a convincing way to show how capitalism is such a failure.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

It's more to do with Catholicism than socialism. Brazil is a large example of what's happening in virtually all of the former Spanish & Portuguese Catholic colonies- out of control breeding, nepotism, gangsterism, corruption, class division. Countries where murdering the opposition is the standard pathway to success don't have a bright future.

I have been to Brazil over 50 times, I know all the provinces except Rodonia, my former business took me there 5 times a year minimum and I also have relatives on my mothers side that I have spent a lot of time with.

The two countries with the greatest disparity of wealth in Latin America has been for decades Venezuela and Brazil. When you have a huge population of disenfranchised you have the electorate desperate for order and jobs and susceptible to populists and despots. To the left and you get Chavez and Maduro and the Venezuelan disaster. To the right a populist wanting to dismantle democracy and return the military to power... Bolsonaro could emerge as a 21st century Pinochet.

The lesson to be taken from Venezuela and Brazil is how the political volatility heats up when the middle class no longer exists and you have extreme disparity of wealth and corruption. The underclass becomes restless and votes idiots into office.

Reflect on this as you consider US politics in the last 30 years, the increasing disparity on the rise, the corruption of lobbyists influencing politics, the emergence of populist clowns elected by a population increasingly full of grievances.

Having said all of that Brazil was always my favorite country to visit. This amazing melting pot of cultures, italians, japanese, afro. The country has a dynamic that is wild and yet quite cultured. There are few places I have been were I laughed so hard while doing business..... hysterical antics by my friends and colleagues, irreverent, corrupt, entrepreneurial in the midst of chaos and disorder. Highly entertaining country.. And the women.... don't get me started..... Fucked up but fun.

Sounds like there are a lot of communists in Brazil who are going to need to find an exit strategy. Maybe they can immigrate in a caravan to Venezuela. They haven't given up on communism quite yet. ;)

I’ve never met a communist from Brazil, but several rather staunch capitalist.

More likely they will be buying out upscale neighborhoods. As in Miami.

Don't worry Cog, that newly elected President will do everything to "disappear", communists, socialists, unions, social safety nets and of course freedom of the press. He should get help from our own CIA, to make these people disappear. Because together they will be making Brazil safe for business oops democracy. Capitalism is so grand, as a bonus he seems fully in favor of killing the Lungs of the world ie. the Amazon. Bravo, some will be rich right to the point when this planet can no longer support our species

I'm optimistic about Brazil's future now. Now all we need is the rest of central and south America to follow suit. Perhaps this will lead to a stoppage of all those refugees fleeing socialism and communism.
