It turns out that when Americans get more money, they spend it on more expensive gas. It's hard to disentangle our personalities from the cars we drive. Of course when we have more money it goes into gas to power them.

"This is not rational behavior. Americans spent about 4 percent of pretax income on gas in 2014. One might expect them to spend about the same share of any windfall at the pump — maybe a little more because gas got cheaper. Instead they spent almost half."
Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.

Hate to say it, but that's a message doomers should listen to as well.

My take is quite the opposite. Us doomers are less afraid of things then a typical person. Thus we acknowledge and face our fears, meaning we search out the truth even if the truth is foreboding and menacing.

Is the "Truth" really so comforting, though? The latter half of Ibon's message is what I was focusing on. It's not whether or not doomers or non-doomers fear things. It's how much the fear allows life to slip right by them.

As they say. Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.
