No check, but we (most of us 8O ) like to occasionally honor the keen and insightful input of the few remaining originals around here (while we last) such as you. It's like since we got in on the ground floor we have stock in this outfit and we (most of us 8O ) really love the ever-dwindling Class of 2004, a member of which you and I and a few others still are! :)

VERY happy to see you here and posting!! :)

A quote by Cid_Yama:

This is the figure we were waiting on. This is the estimated additional releases [of Methane] from abrupt non-linear sources. 3.5 Gt a year. That's it. That's the doctor coming in and telling you to get your affairs in order as it's terminal. Presented in such an antiseptic manner, that once he leaves the room, you ask yourself, "Did he just say I'm dying?"

Short & sweet, and leaves no doubt as to the seriousness of the situation.

Here are some of my recent favorites:

“PO finally came, and all we got was this lousy recession.”
--dohboi

"Ultimately, I think the important thing is that people not make major life changes based on the timetable for collapse. It's just my opinion, but whatever you do make sure it fits in with either scenario -- fast crash or thirty years from now. There's a lot to like about a powered-down, rural lifestyle so hopefully those that choose that now also happen to enjoy it anyway regardless of peak oil."
--Sixstrings

I don't think we'll see a sudden societal failure happen, at least in the rich world, just more of the same trickling up of wealth, tightening of belts and adjusting of goals, till every town looks like Detroit - by then only the old farts will know the difference anyway.

In 25 words or less:

Armageddon wrote:The full effect of peak oil will never be felt because an economic collapse will happen first. This entire system is about to blow.

The coming UK energy meltdown
by Hugh Sharman
No one can claim that the current high energy prices could not have been foreseen. A small, vociferous if disunited group of energy experts all over the world, generally and often patronizingly disparaged as “peak oilers”, have for years been warning, from irrefutable data, that growing demand could not endlessly and affordably be met by supply.
