Websiteoutlook underestimates the value of the sites in question.
Come on, $16k and $22 ads per day?

Okay for example check these out :

http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.google.com
- google.com Estimated Worth $2.41 Billion USD

http://www.google.com/finance?q=google
- Mkt Cap: 129.06B

Given the conservative "underestimation factor" of 129.06 / 2.41 = 53.55,
let's say we value peakoil.com at $16154.9 x 53.55 = $865125.06

To the nearest thousand, what say we put it at $865k.

... but of course, if I did get the order of magnitude off one digit to the left or the right, we might as well be talking about $86.5k or $8.65 million :)

The estimated value of http://peakoil.com is: $124,992

This value is calculated based on several factors shown above, including: Links, Traffic (Alexa), age of the domain, site category, domain keyword popularity, and overall occurrences of the domain name on the web.

http://www.dnscoop.com/

Multiplied by say a factor of 20 I'd say since we are looking at a slow traffic period right now.

2.5 mill or thereabouts I reckon.

First page for this search alone is worth the cost http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=oil+news&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

But alas... it's not really for sale.

We remain open to other potential business opportunities however.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

This site is indexed so fast by google, that the phrase doomer capitalist pulls up your post on peakoil.com already.

Oh i see. So it makes money but you can make more money and that will stop the mass exodus of people from PO.com. Thats righ,t you can invest the extra money back into the site to improve the site and create a positive economic loop of growth.

Hey when you get really big you can start investing in shares and property.

Then when the finacial system comes crashing down you can apply for Fed Bailout.

Doomer capitalism is, for the time being, limited to advertising goodwill, IMHO. Of course, were one to enter the doomer derivatives market, goodwill value may expand exponentially, subject of course to sub-prime risks.

what a bizarre thread. If you're serious, why in the world would you choose such a public format to make the offer?

Actually I was serious.

Not a million dollars serious though. I was thinking $25,000 was a fair offer.

Of which I would be happy to pay for this site, I could have turned this site around and made 2 - 5 times that in one year. Why in the hell they (dan aaron) stick with google ads I will never know, I can name a dozen different ad companies that would generate at min a thousand $$$ per week for this sites audience.

Aaron said in his post they're open to other business opportunities. Why not just private message him? If you have money to invest and / or expertise to offer, maybe they'll work out a partnership with you.

If they would sell it to me, I could redesign, change hosting platforms, replace the existing under performing forum software with something like VB, and develop partnerships with decent ad companies and deliver a site that doesn't go down 25 times a day.

A site that stands out, and one that inspires confidence in people regarding the legitimacy of peakoil. I understand why Dan wouldn't want to sell for 25,000 if he thinks that somebody will show up and offer him 1 million or more. I am sure in the past he has had many people offer to buy the site. But as the worlds economy continues to dwindle, he will never get his golden goose.
