Central America Seeks Energy Alternatives El Salvadorean President Elias Saca affirmed Monday that the countries of Central America are seeking energy alternatives in the face of the high price of petroleum in the international market. "The reality of petroleum is a new economic reality for the region. We have to look for new alternatives of energy," Saca told a press conference, according to reports from San Salvador.
He said petroleum was among the main issues for discussion at the summit of Central American presidents held last Friday at Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras. Predicting the oil prices would remain high for an indefinite period of time, Saca said the Central American Integration System has been tasked to consult with Brazil on some projects, as the country has "had successful experiences."
