Reporter Would Like to Interview You

Unread postby philadelphiareporter » Fri 08 Aug 2008, 11:25:24

I'm looking for a homesteader/ survivalist in eastern Pennsylvania, central or south Jersey, or Delaware, who would be willing to share their story with the Fox TV station in Philly.

You can contact me at [email protected].

Thanks so much!

Yeah, yeah, I know already. BUT, if somebody from FOX found their way here, it says a lot about PO's media profile these days.

They may trash the whole thing as another theme for survivalists, homesteaders or whatever, but it would be damned hard for them to cover up the reason why such people reach the conclusions they do i.e Peak Oil.

Whatever.

I'll bet the producer for the piece would be especially excited if he/she could locate a homesteader/survivalist with an eye patch.

The eye patch is like a credential that says "I'm hardcore."

However well-intentionaed such a piece would be, I just don't see how it could have as its underlying message anything other than "look how crazy these people are."

The alternative underlying message would be "look how smart these people are and look how dumb all of you viewers are."

The news is entertainment. The original reality show.

Decontextualized, homogenized, advertiser-certified and delivered straight to your living room to titillate, obfuscate, and exfoliate any tubers of truth that might have sprouted in your mind since your last media treatment.

When a civilization's storytellers become corrupted, further cultural decay is sure to follow.

"But Mr. BigTex, we are doing our job and running a business here."

Yes, and Edward R. Murrow does the hula in his grave.

Nice one, Tex.

It reminds me of the remark a co-worker made to my BIL once, "you're some of those fringe people, aren't you?", because they have animals and guns and homeschool.

It will happen more frequently soon, I suppose. The TV equivalent of a squinty "must be fringe people" face.

OH, so THAT's what it is. I just thought I was rough around the edges. Nice to know I have fringe  Much more attractive than just rough edges. 8)
