Request for info on home heating technologies in the US

Unread postby lorenzo » Mon 24 Oct 2005, 11:59:47

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me with a simple question: of all households in the US, how many use heating oil and how many use natural gas? And is the trend one towards more natural gas installations or towards more heating oil installations?

Over here, there's a rise in natural gas installations, because they're being subsidized. But the vast majority of households still uses "mazout" (i.e. heating oil). What's the situation in the US?

Thanks for your help.

(Working on so-called biomazout here. )

Lorenzo,

You should find some answers here:

BTW: I'm glad to see that you are recovering.

I know the breakdown of those using heating oil is very much in the
Northeast and NG heating is larger in the Midwest than the national
average.

Here's some recent census figures:

Don't have any info on existing homes, but I printed out an article entitled The Problem with Natural Gas from www.energypulse.net. Date of article is 7-14-05. Sorry I don't have a link. You can look for it if you want.

The article states that over the past decade 70% of new homes use NG for heat with electricity 2nd at 27%. I guess HO is not too popular in new homes.
