Philip Dru Administrator

Philip Dru: Administrator: a Story of Tomorrow, 1920-1935 is futuristic political novel by Edward Mandell House, an American diplomat, politician and presidential foreign policy advisor. His book's hero leads the democratic western U.S. in a civil war against the plutocratic East, and becomes the dictator of America. Dru as dictator imposes a series of reforms that resemble the Bull Moose platform of 1912 and then vanishes.

Mandell House selected the first 7 members of the Federal Reserve Board in 1914. He was trusted by Rockefeller and Morgan.

What I have heard of this book... the US is thrown into an economic depression...civil war breaks out...martial law is enacted...and Dru becomes dictator.

Sound like a familiar course we may be on?

Has anyone read this book?

Did you read this book? It is said this is one of President Obama's favorite books but I don't know if that is true. He certainly did not have the political skill to use it as a roadmap for himself if that were the case.
Alfred Tennyson wrote:We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
