I went to the film 'Take shelter' tonight with my wife. The film has climate change overtones and is focused on one man's struggle to do prepping.
Most people who have done some prepping, myself included, will be enthralled by the hard choices he has to make. Should he take out a home equity loan to build an underground storm shelter? How much and what should he prep with? Do I need gas masks; what if there are people trying to hurt me or my family?
The whole film goes through the motions, which many of us here on this board have already gone through ourselves. Do I really need to prep? No one else is doing this; I look weird and paranoid to friends, family and co-workers. How much is enough prepping? When will the event I'm prepping for occur?
This is backset as a psychological thriller; he has a family history of schizophrenia. He's experienced nightmares and hallucinations, is the threat real or imagined?
I must say I couldn't wait till the end of the film to see what happened, only for it to have an 'open ended' ending. Which in reality is what we all face for the future in any type of prepping that we might do. We don't know what is going to happen, we just struggle through the best way that we can.
Excellent film for our times that addresses real contemporary issues in a mature fashion! Anyone doing any type of prepping needs to see this film. Trailer:
