Hi Energy24,

It's good to have an energy orientated person from Australia join.

May I suggest that if you are at all interested in the economic side of things that Global House Price Crash Australian Forum is quite good for an Australian perspective on the economy. There are the usual over the top people but they do post some interesting articles and have some sensible discussions about the economy (Oz and World) that supplement readings here. There are a few peakoiler's there also, although that is not the focus.
Cheers

Hello from Kentucky

Unread postby Outcast_Searcher » Sat 27 Jun 2009, 22:03:01

Hi. Making my first post here as requested. I very much like the professional atmosphere I've noticed in the posts I've read, and the relatively high signal-to-noise ratio.

I'm just an ordinary "schmoe", who has watched (with increasing alarm) oil prices and people's (remarkably ignorant) reactions since 2005, and decided a couple months ago to get a better handle on what is going on and what to do about it (for both better living and profit, frankly).

This site looks like a nice place to further my education.

I recently read a new (i.e. 2009) book, "Oil 101", which I didn't find in the recent reviews (and BTW I get "module not loaded) for both search methods recommended in the Moderator's "welcome" topic in this forum -- so my apologies up front if I missed an "Oil 101" review).

I'll try to contribute something here early on by putting a review of that book in the book review forum, as I think it is a good solid book explaining a LOT of the basics about oil, production, markets, alternatives, etc. - and the author has a very bullish outlook on the long term price of oil (a view I assume will be rather popular on this site! :) ).

Cheers,

Roger

Greetings and welcome to what passes for intelligent debate here on the Internet.

hello all

I'm pleased to have found a peak oil forum that is (hopefully?) more moderate than latoc.

I have questions, but I'll try to post them in their appropriate forums.

Welcome to Doomer Central, er I mean PO.com :) If you really are seeking moderate input you need to ignore the 80 % doomerism and 15% cornucopianism posts and then sort through the remainder for actual facts vs opinions. If you manage to do that you will get just exactly what you are looking for :)

Yes, in theory, this is a PEAK OIL forum ... when it's not crowded out by topics addressing financial collapse; global warming; anti-Obamania; real estate meltdown ... California meltdown ... etc.

Hello from Seattle

[smilie=XXsunsmile.gif]

I'm here to combat environmental doomerism and pessimism.

People must stop worrying about die-off, nuclear war, resource wars, human extinction, the next million years, and stop looking down on the human race by comparing people to bacteria/AIDS virus.

Malthusianism is a source of pessimism, hopelessness, and conflict and is based on a philosophy of narrow self interest.

Why do anything good if it will all come crashing down? The answer is this: by not doing anything, it will come crashing down.

Please stop crying about your (supposedly) threatened American suburban lifestyle and go for a walk and appreciate the beauty of nature, men, go meet a wonderful woman and have a nice day.

Who said if you are a doomer , you don't go in nature, meet women and have a lot of fun. I'm a happy doomer, but I can;t ignore reality.

I am new to peak oil, and I hope to find some legitimate industry information through this forum. Specifically, I am interested in the domestic oil and gas industry. Thanks in advance!
