Hi Mandy. It's not going to get over.
The last poster got it right.
It's too late to relocate unless you are going closer to family. I bugged out when The Idiot stole term 2 and have established myself overseas. My " family" here is now extensive.
Stay put,or go closer to more family and then STOCK UP.
I'm assuming 1950 is your birth year so unless you were/are a complete city girl I'm sure you know a thing or five about homestead style living ( like granny did it)
dubya dubya dubya dot survival blog dot com is also a good read with a ton of info.

There is a big storm coming and not many good forecasters.

I kind of agree. Don't obsess about this kind of thing. Just hope for the best and prepare for, if not the worst, at least some degree of civil unrest.

Hi there!
I'm Kristjan from Estonia. I joined this forum mostly because I would like to discuss with you on new energy technologies. I've read many books and seen numerous films on peak oil, climate change, resource depletion, energy generating technologies and environmental protection. I have also had the pleasure of being a long time member of theenvironmentsite.org forum, hence I consider myself pretty well informed on all of the issues mentioned above. Of course, that doesn't mean I know everything and that's why I've joined this forum.
I also have three blogs on these issues but as two of them are in Estonian, I will only give you the link of the one in English. Here it is.

Looking forward to having some interesting discussions with you,
Kristjan

Welcome to the boards Kristjan. Bonus that you've discussed some of these important issues before now... feel free to jump into the discussion!

Welcome.

Interesting blog. I am pretty gun shy about investing in wind energy just yet. I want to see what happens this winter with oil prices and the economy in general.

I'm putting my eggs in the solar basket, because there aren't any wind power companies listed on the US markets and because of the new tax credits given to solar, which will expire in 2017. The wind power tax credit only lasts for a year and then they have to renew it again. Although the US has Obama now and renewing the wind power tax credits will probably go a lot smoother, things are much more solid for solar at the moment. Although there is still some room for wind turbine efficiency improvements and cost cutting, I can't see it happening as fast as it's happening on the (thin-film) solar market.

Pretorian, what was your username there? I was (and still am) blackfoxtrade. I don't post there anymore because my internet connection kicks me out every time I log on to theenvironmentsite.org. It's a nice place and I'd love to have stayed, but if one can't even log on, then there's no point really (can't post).

Oh c'mon. The Russians only attacked government, law enforcement and media websites. And they didn't mess with the connections.

No need to be sorry. Nobody is sorry here and nobody follows links - since it consumes time.

Welcome, MWH. Been downloading your database all day, did you scan all those dusty tomes yourself? Quite the boatload of work, very impressive. You should link to some of the sites out there that have similar goods.

I'm also a bit of a packrat/archivist. There are some audio recordings (American folk song) only available from the web that I plan to dump onto cassette tape; there are 35 year old cassettes that still play while CDs are done in by minor skufs and degradation.
