So Cog you discount that methane is escaping in ever greater amounts in the Northern Hemisphere?

Ever increasing is a relative term. Small increases in the Northern Hemisphere which are not reflected in global methane levels to any significant degree.

Here's another video from the same series as the one above. Yes, they're AMEG folks. But mostly they are saying pretty accurate things here (to the point that I've viewed it so far, anyway)

Scary video, but they ramble and rant and get off topic. Maybe the science is good, but a D for presentation.

Kub,

Finally had a chance to view much of the video.

I have to ask....do we discard the science just because it is presented poorly? Or do we look beyond the poor presentation, picking the wheat from the chaff, and find the value?

Cog,
In the above video (the poorly presented one) the researcher claims that Svalbard and another site have recorded very large methane spikes which are augmented by satellite data. He is pretty clear that he feel there is sufficient data to support the claims.

Of course methane is escaping in greater amounts. The permafrost is melting, an observational fact.

Many do, yes. But there's no shortage of well-polished doomer porn out there to catch the eye of the mainstream, like Homeproject. And yet it just comes and goes without making much of an impact on people's behavior or ideology. So it's ultimately the message people don't want to process, not the delivery.

Its the social economy.

In a primitive social economy where cannibalism is the norm, advanced human rights would appear absurd. Likewise in social relations where subjectified modernity is the norm (capitalism), objective notions on issues such as resourcing are equally off the radar...bar the empty platitudes.

Harold Wanless, a leading climatologist and geologist based at the University of Miami

at ~43:

It's so clear now--we've warmed the ocean,

the warming ocean is starting to accelerate the melt on Greenland and Antarctica

and that's not going to slow down
...

we have to get off using fossil fuels and putting more CO2 in the atmosphere

we have to

because if we don't we're going to be at 150 or more feet of sea level rise...

no, we are!...

and we may be having such high levels of CO2 and probably low levels of oxygen

that it may become very difficult for mammals, including humans, to live on earth by the end of the century...

We have enough GHGs in the atmosphere now to guarantee 70 to 80 feet of sea level rise

how fast is the question, but it will be much faster than all the models predict...

we will not stop the first ten to twenty feet of slr

parts of the earth will be unlivable.
