The pinecone is a symbol of consciousness, moreso, the third eye. It has to do with a belief that matter is subject to consciousness. It has a follow on in what I was saying about the importance of love in the idea of religion. The temptation in the garden was to adopt selfishness. Selfishness essentially blinds the third eye while the selflessness that love contains empowers it. That's why the knowledge of good and evil brought death and changed the nature of the world. It's why every religion eventually gets round to love as a core teaching. It's also why we, being flesh and blood, can't see anything to religion unless we decide to have faith in it because flesh and blood are doomed to see only from selfishness.
