What exactly is the problem? It's just one of the many maps in the venue, and this one shows neither Palestine nor Israel, which is logical given the fact that the borders which Israel artificially uses on its own maps are not recognized by the UN.

Moreover, if you carefully analyse the pictures, you see that the article accompanying it is flawed and false.
1. The map is not at the center of the venue, on the contrary, it is somewhere almost invisible in a corner of the room
2. There are other maps in the room
3. The picture showing the UN people taking a moment of silence to remember the sufferings of the Palestinians, doesn't even show a map, only a curtain
4. It's probably even a historic map with a context written onto it, but the article of course glosses over this context.

This is really a lot of noise about nothing.

lorenzo,

How are you?

As to the map, I think if you look at the pictures again, you will see the map is not invisible in a corner of the room. It is not behind the speakers' podiums, but it is featured prominently just to the side of the speakers' table. Also, quite clearly, it is featured between two flags, one is Palestinian, the other flag, of course, is the U.N.

I am not hyping the significance of this event. It may be just a political faux paux. But you seem to be deliberately downplaying it and I don't believe you have facts to support that.

Another thought:

What if there was a public meeting between the United States and the U.N. to discuss the future of North America. Conspicuously absent are the Canadians.

Now, to the left of the speakers' table are two flags, the U.S. flag and the U.N. flag. Between the flags is a map of the northern part of North America. The area currently known as "Canada" has been relabled as the "Northern United States Territory."

Do you think the Canadians just might be a bit upset?

As oppose to at the moment where only the US is unable to pay up their UN dues.

In saying something against the UN, there is no implicit statement that I support any or all actions taken by the US. The US government is run by and for large corporations. That is a seperate thread.
