Where did you learn about peak oil?

Unread postby DesuMaiden » Wed 29 Oct 2014, 11:38:43

I found it from some random google searches about overpopulation. I just found it by accident for the most part. I'm glad to have learned about peak oil because peak oil is such an important thing. By understanding peak oil, you can understand how the economy works.

I'm a programmer and was working on a strategy game similar to Civ. I wanted resource usage to be more realistic as in Civ and similar resources are constant or even grow based on tech.

So searching for info on various resource info peakoil.com came up regularly.

I've been a member here for 7 years and was only answering the question asked. I don't even have the game now I work elsewhere

I see nothing trolly anywhere in the discussion.

One of the main reason I post so little here is because of bs such as this.

milt - I personally hope you post more. Diversity here (even with the folks who don't think I'm as smart as I think I am) is one of the attractions for me. Wasn't any skin of my nose early on when folks accused me of being a shill for the oil patch. Not that I would be willing to do so but I've yet to find anyone to pay me for it. You're either a whore that sells it or a slut that gives it away. And I've never given it away. LOL.

And most here already know my first exposure to PO was from my first mentor at Mobil Oil in 1975.

milt, et al

I was of course referring to DesuMaiden.

Have you noticed the post titles? All the same ones from newbies past, all of them memorialized for his reading on this very website.

"Where did you learn about peak oil?"
"Will there be a world war?"
"How will peak oil affect me?"
"Apparently some people still deny peak oil...."
"Mankind's biggest mistake..."
"Will I be able to see the collapse of civilization??

milt - can you see the pattern? Says "BOT" to me, not newbie.

Newbies read after a couple times of getting their ass handed to them. Bots don't know any better.

First heard of the concept in 1973 or so. Then forgot about it for thirty years.

I do see that, but assumed a bot would include some form of links or there would be nothing to gain.

But I can see the possibility of good bot designed to gain trust / build up keyword phrases to assist with future spam

(I over reacted to pstarrs comment that I could be seen as trolling)

Oh, man! Do I like that line or what? Wish Barney Fife...I mean Deputy Barnes, would read.

Btw, I learned about the concept of peak oil in 1972 after reading Limits to Growth. Wasn't called that then, though.

Yet, you haven't taken the time to do much reading on this site, otherwise you wouldn't respond to me and others like you do, or post continuous new threads on subjects covered ad naseum over the years.

I learned about it by asking questions like:

"Where did you learn about peak oil?"
"Will there be a world war?"
"How will peak oil affect me?"
"Apparently some people still deny peak oil...."
"Mankind's biggest mistake..."
"Will I be able to see the collapse of civilization??

I guess if a person already know all the answers there isn't much keeping them here is there?
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
