Predicting what will be of the world after peak oil is very sticky business, but one thing I'm willing to bet: the transition will be smooth or sharp.

Meaning, either the world switches to a rational use of energy and carries on with moderate inconvenience, OR major collapse and global wars arise.

I believe we (mankind) now have the technology to operate the smooth transition, but since we are still as egoistic as 1 million year ago, I'm not so sure that will be the path we'll tread.

I wish we could also have a how to manual for the average person that outlines what to do. I don't think it'll be a hard crash, but I may be wrong. Overall it is a very readable book that lays it all out. I'd rather be told the truth about the situation. I agree that it's a bad one to give to relatives to convince them. John Howe's book The End of Fossil Energy and a plan for sustainability is much better to give out. He avoids politics and includes a plan to step down energy use 5% per year. Savinar's book is for us hard core peakers. I loved it, but I love what I call "uh oh" books. They are nonfiction books which have you turning the pages saying uh oh! His is on my list for the best of that genre.

So Revi, what do you think of the book in hindsight, both of how peak oil turned out, and the things he claimed in it?

Revi - And perhaps a pertinent question: life after which oil crash?

You want to hear even a more amusing claim? The refugees from Matt's old website (the father figure seeking, religious nutjobs that hounded Matt into becoming an astrologer/palm reader) formed a new one. And even though it took on the same name as the old, they decided the acronym stood for something just a WEE bit different. Life Amidst The Oil Crash. They didn't mention if it was the price these daddy figure seeking religious nutjobs thought was the Crash part.

And as expected, Ralfy showed up! Still father figure seeking I guess....
