Erodogan is a lot like Putin, himself. The rest of the alliance is well aware of that. They'll be keeping an eye on Turkey, in the future. NATO is a defensive alliance -- the other members don't want dragged into war if one of the other members was playing regional power and went looking for it, being a loose cannon on the deck.
I do know how they feel about Russia & you are right about it 6
Okay, so you understand. The countries around Russia have millions of people in them, and they are people too, same as Russians are or Aussies or Brits are. Everyone's issues should be listened to.
, but it is a dynamic situation & in flux as it has been since Russia became a country. Depending how Russia is run, how Putin, Lavrov & co manage things over the next few years, especially if a good relationship can develop between Russia & the USA- Russia's neighbors will have much less to fear & much more reason to engage positively.
Yep, that would be very good. The US is actually in a position where it could play neutral arbiter. We don't really have any problems with Russia, except for things going on abroad. But we don't have any grudges. Russia has not done anything to us.
The problems that Russia has with its other neighbors, in some cases go back centuries. And everyone over there in east europe has such long memories. Russians have long memories too, and Turks do, and everyone has grudges. So Russia's still going to have troubles with its neighbors -- but the best thing Russia could do for itself is get in good with an American administration that it can work with.
And I think the next US administration should think outside the box and see the opportunity in that. We don't have to just lead an alliance opposing Russia -- we could bring Russia into a partnership. And it wind up being good for peace in general, and everyone's security.
A true end to the cold war would be a huge plus for the west, for Russia, for the world. If the darkness of Salafism is what it takes to unite us, well that is a price to pay- but it is nothing compared to the prospect of MAD.
Right, none of us should want cold war to get worse. And you're right, nuke ICBM arsenals are the #1 threat. As long as they exist, they are a threat. Something could happen like a darn accident, or misunderstanding. This is why good relations with Russia is important. If possible. In my opinion, there's a window right now and it's possible.
I saw these candidates in the GOP primary, and even the Democratic primary, just hammering on Russia -- but not a one of them said anything about how to improve relations with Russia. And then here comes Trump -- cheerfully announcing he's got no problems with Russia, would like deeper relations, looks forward to getting along with Putin, and he shows respect rather than insults them.
As to the original topic of this thread -- that Russians are starting to hate America -- who knows, maybe a year from now that will start to get turned around.
