On the contrary, oil is still as important as ever.
History repeats itself. Just everytime with different characters and players.

To the end consumers and industry yes, but to investors (the people the story appears to be aimed at) oil appears to be "last years" investments.
In other words, there's no more money to be made in investing in the oil production industry, look elsewhere to grow your money.
