Completely wrong. Are you thinking of the total US federal national debt figure? (That's over $19 trillion now, and counting).

The actual amount of US treasury debt owned by the Fed is a little under $2.5 trillion, and has been for the past year.

I did a Google search on "amount of treasury debt owned by the federal reserve" and got 13.1 million hits, with the good link above as the first answer, with five seconds of work. Why don't posters put out a LITTLE effort instead of just posting complete nonsense, re easily obtainable objective data?
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Since the FED gets audited every year by its watch dog, Congress, we know that number is correct!

Of course, who could ever believe that a banker would tell anything but the truth. Believing otherwise would be almost down right UN-American!!

OK. So what number/source should we use? Zerohedge or some wild-eyed paranoid blog? Something else?

They have lied about inflation to the tune of 300% for years. Try multiplying that number by 3. Maybe they like threes.

It has been estimated that they now hold half of all US government debt, they certainly own most of the long trenches. Look up the US government debt, multiply by .5, add $3.5 trillion for QE and call it a day. Since they admit that they have $326 billion to back up their outstanding debits - they are broke.

If they were audited, we would know that. But let's extend and pretend until the ship goes down. In the meantime they are buying up every asset that isn't nailed down. All of that debt out there is their paper, and they are using it while anyone still thinks it might mean anything 10 years down the road.
