Scientists are to test a monster bluefin tuna caught off New Zealand to see if it carries radioactivity from Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant.

The 275kg tuna was caught by Victorian fisherman Paul Worsteling 50km off the coast of Greymouth.

Mr Worsteling said he waited more than 30 hours to hook the fish, then another two hours to haul it on board.

No, actually, this is what tuna used to be like before we over fished them and now can and sell small sized tuna that would have once been used as bait.

As a kid in the 70s tunas in italy mostly had this size.

Around the world we have a fish stock crisis from over fishing. We also have a food crisis, a water crisis an oil crisis, an energy crisis, a jobs crisis and an over populations crisis. Every one of these problems is made worse as the human population continues to grow every year.

Bluefin may reach as much as 3 m (9.8 ft) in length and 450 kg (990 lb) in weight so this is only an average sized large Bluefin, and many of these are caught near New Zealand.

It is recommended to avoid eating these large Bluefins since they accumulate heavy metals and other toxic compounds. These fish travel long distances hence the interest in testing for accumulated radioactive compounds.

Why is this on PO.com? Are they trying to claim this fish is some kind of mutant?

All I want is a blu-fin tuna with a friken laser on its friken head……

So 50kms off the coast of Greymouth in New Zealand, is somewhere in Australia. Geography not the strong suit of this poacher.
It is a big tuna but not a giant.

This is truly sad. Blue Fin stocks are down dramatically from overfishing. It’s like being proud that you bagged a black rhino or an endangered white tiger.

May the Peak Oil apocalypse save the biosphere from us ignorant humans.
