Where is Iran? What are US sanctions imposed on Iran? Will it cause World War 3?

President Donald Trump’s administration has begun the process of re-imposing sanctions on Iran.

In turn, this has reignited fears it could spark World War 3.

Where is Iran?

Iran is a large country located in the Middle East.

Officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran, it is situated on the Arabian Golf.

It borders many countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Turkey.

There are currently more than 81 million people living in the sovereign state.

It is the second biggest country in the Middle East, and also the 17th largest in the world.

Tehran is the capital city, which has a population of more than 8.4 million in the city.

In the Greater Tehran area there are a whopping 15 million people.

What sanctions have been imposed on Iran by the US?

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has warned the US will impose new sanctions on Iran, if it does not make changes to its nuclear programme.

The US also wants the country to withdraw from the Syrian civil war.

US President Donald Trump pulled out of an international deal with Iran two weeks ago.

The deal promised to lift international sanctions in exchange for curbing its nuclear ambitions.

Now the White House is warning it is ready to impose “the strongest sanctions in history”, adding to the tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The sanctions include limiting Iran’s purchases of US dollars, trade in gold and precious metals, coal and industrial-related software.

They will also effect transactions involving the Iranian Rial and issuance of Iranian sovereign debt.

This will add to the destabilisation of the Rial, which has already lost more than half of its value against the dollar.

“Sanctions never work. At least, they do hurt people who have minimal economic resources. But generally, the elite finds a way to remain happy and healthy”

Michael Scheuer – former CIA officer

Will the sanctions cause World War 3?

According to former CIA officer Michael Scheuer, the sanctions will not work, and at worst they will cause harm.

He told LBC: “Sanctions never work. At least, they do hurt people who have minimal economic resources. But generally, the elite finds a way to remain happy and healthy.

“Sanctions are just quiet warfare. They are a step on the way to war.

“It’s almost as if they want war. They’ve had people all over Fox News and it states this morning that this is the opening to create democracy.

“It sounds like Blair and Bush all over again. The Iranians haven’t attacked the United States since 1984. What the heck are we doing?”

Meanwhile, Zack Beauchamp told Vox: “As scary as it sounds, we have to take the possibility of war with Iran seriously.”

Damon Lineker of The Week also says getting rid of the US support for the Iranian nuclear deal “has only one outcome – war”.

He said: “The Iran deal, whatever its flaws, was clearly keeping Iran from acquiring a nuclear capacity.

“But if your aim is to overthrow the Iranian government, it would have proved a nuisance.”

Iran has had a long history of nuclear activity, which lead to the world’s concern of its nuclear programme.

Since the deal was imposed on Iran, the country has depleted its stockpile by uranium of 98%.

Before this it has enough to create 10 nuclear bombs.

Now Iran will have to make the decision of whether to negotiate with the remaining members of the deal (Britain, Germany and France), or withdraw.

President Hassan Rouhani has warns if negotiations should fall the uranium programme could restart.

The Daily Star, another imperial poodle yapping. The Us needs a war to prevent a civil one in the 50 states. If it is to be, the ME is the best place for it to happen as it will end America.

AND, it will be 6,000 kilometers from the Ps.

“I have been writing articles and doing survival courses for years, and while it is much easier to show the importance of basics in real courses, it is a bit harder to do that in my articles. That’s because we as humans tend to look for flashy things. We love quick and interesting facts that will occupy our attention. But you must also prepare for the basics so that you can perform those things during the confusion, panic, and mayhem of SHTF. You must observe your surroundings before anything terrible happens.” Do you know YOUR surroundings?

    Nuff said.

Philosophy began with Socrates corrupting the youth by telling them how the “wise” old men were full of shit. And philosophy is still important, because 2500 years later, the old men are just as full of shit as ever.

JuanP, MM is trying to use 2,500 year old ideas in a modern context. I guess we should believe that the world is flat, and, that the sun and stars rotate around the earth, for the same reason? MM doesn’t have an original thought, ever.

    Americans are hypocrites:

“Among the most fascinating aspects of the brouhaha over supposed Russian meddling in America’s electoral system is the total silence in the U.S. mainstream press about U.S. meddling in the political affairs of other countries.”

    https://www.fff.org/2018/08/03/silence-on-u-s-meddling-abroad/

“The U.S. media helps to remind us of an old principle: When one points his finger at someone in an accusatory way, oftentimes there are three fingers pointing back at the accuser and his silence.”

Just what I have been saying. Hypocrites.

“…the U.S. has been revealed as a paper tiger incapable of imposing its will on a world which is rapidly recoiling from its dominance.”

” Israel, the U.S. and Saudi Arabia have lost the Syrian War and the ramifications of that are immense….

At a time when the optics are all about the U.S. acting in the most mad way imaginable, the reality is that intense bullying like this only comes from weakness. Trump has no other cards to play….

…why does anyone think that Iran’s government is going to fall because the rial is in free fall when Venezuelans, who are literally starving to death, haven’t overthrown theirs?…

Now China is creating yuan-futures contracts for industrial metals to mitigate the effects of those sanctions when they go into effect later this year.

And this morning the Chinese petroyuan futures contract is limit up on the Shanghai exchange. It will be tomorrow as well. Iran will get paid for its oil. China will continue de-valuing the Yuan to protect emerging markets….

The U.S. economy cannot substitute domestic goods for Chinese.”

Why bother with Irans internal workings. They’re entering their own personal bottleneck with 80 million souls floundering in a sea of sand. The USs bottleneck might be a little further down the road but still inescapable. The States should be preparing for a world of less than trying to keep the growth paradigm of all things American. And that will entail a massive overhaul of our political system. Can that be done in a nonviolent pursuit of regime change? Highly doubtful but we shall see if it’s possible to alter our trajectory.
