Trump administration pushes to sell Alaska oil leases pre-Biden inauguration

The Trump Administration will take key steps to finalize a sale of oil drilling leases in the sensitive Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska, a government spokeswoman said on Friday.

The White House will be sending out a call for nominations in coming days, according to a spokeswoman for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Anchorage, Alaska. The call is a request to energy companies on what specific land areas should be offered for sale.

That would start the clock on a 60-day period before sales could take place in ANWR, where drilling had been banned for decades before a Republican-led tax legislation signed in 2017 removed that ban. Projected presidential election winner Joe Biden opposes drilling in ANWR, while lawmakers in Alaska have long pushed to open up the ecologically sensitive area for oil and gas exploration.

“Development in ANWR is long overdue and will create good-paying jobs and provide a new revenue stream for the state — which is why a majority of Alaskans support it,” said Frank Macchiarola, senior vice president of policy, economics and regulatory affairs at the American Petroleum Institute, an industry group.

Following a 30-day period after the call for nominations, the government would have to issue a notice for an impending sale of leases. Thirty days after that, the sale would take place, just before Biden would be inaugurated on Jan. 20.

Alaska produces roughly 500,000 barrels per day of crude oil, far below its peak of 2 million barrels per day in the late 1980s.

“This lease sale is one more box the Trump administration is trying to check off for its oil industry allies before vacating the White House in January,” said Adam Kolton, executive director at the Alaska Wilderness League, which opposes drilling in ANWR.

The White House finalized a plan to allow drilling earlier this year. The 19- million acre refuge is home to Native tribes and wildlife populations including caribou and polar bears. In recent months, several big U.S. banks have said they would not finance oil and gas projects in the Arctic region.

“This administration has consistently ignored our voices and dismissed our concerns. Our food security, our land and our way of life is on the verge of being destroyed,” said Bernadette Demientieff, executive director of the Gwich’in Steering Committee. The Gwich’in tribe lives in scattered villages in the reserve and across the national border in Canada.

Putin and Xi will love it, not to mention Iran.

The election was a farcical fraud. The DeepState & Yidbox media won, having slung so much mud at the Trumpian wall over four years that it has stuck in the mind of slightly over 50% of the voters.  As for the election itself, Democrat ballot counters barring Republican poll watchers from watching their criminality and Dominion software manufactured the victory of an aged ghoul who fakes comforting grandpa-ness.  The anti-Americans, rioting street thugs, and the dung beetles of the permanent bureacracy have undermined the president.  A perfect example is Ambassador James Jeffrey, “who had been appointed by President Trump as special representative for Syria Engagement and special envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State since August 2018.”  According to Zerohedge (, at his retirement announcement, the traitor gloated about having “hid the true numbers of US troops inside Syria from the White House,” preventing the withdrawal of troops from Syria that President had ordered.  Never mind the number of American military deaths resulting from their continuance in Syria.

This is the kind of fecal matter we have actually controlling the upper reaches of the bribe-ocratic U.S. government.

But the recompense for all this treason is imminent in the energy sphere.  The predicament has turned into an unseen emergency.  Leftist religious faith in technology, “science,” or renewable energy will not save us.  COVID-19 has only accelerated energy problems that have been long abuilding.  Ultimately it doesn’t matter who will end up being president or in control of Congress.  The political demigods had expected the results of their deceit and theft to culminate in the far future;  but the virus has produced Apocalypse Now.

The fact:  the rich are getting richer, the poor, poorer.  The poor countries are going to suffer first, since the rich countries don’t buy their slave-labor products any more.  Most ominously, the energy behind the world economy is declining.  Even in Yankeeland, government bailouts have expired and, in order to spite the Republicans, the Democrat monkey-wrenchers will not renew them.  So the money spigot has run dry for the lockdown-destitute citizens at the bottom.  Money pumped into Wall Street does not help the Lumpenproletariat.  The result will be more disintegration of the political system.  The logic sequence is:  complexification => hierarchy = K-shaped economy, with the tech companies and military-industrial complex flourishing and ordinary citizens losing everything.  According to Art Berman, an oil industry expert (see video at Our Finite World), the number of U.S. oil wells drilled in 2020 is a quarter of those drilled in 2019.  He expects U.S. production to decline this coming summer to a third of what it has hitherto been under Trump.  We will have to import oil since we are no longer going to be the world’s “swing producer.”

Furthermore, the elites’ financialization of the economy only obscures the situation.  Increasing that obscurity is the fact that we are desperately dependent on electricity, an increasingly precarious resource.  “Renewable” energy sources are utterly inadequate and do not produce any realistic energy return on the energy invested to create and maintain them.  It need not be said that energy is required especially in the winter;  solar will not work.  It should also be remembered that catastrophic losses do happen from time to time in history.  If electricity should go down cyber-civilization-wide (think EMP or even solar coronal mass ejection), civilization itself would disappear.  High politicians are not telling us the reality, let alone preparing for it, since the electorate wants to be promised only utopia.  The fact is that the economy is energy, and nothing else.  Money is only a convenient proxy for it, not the real thing.  And with all due respect to the lobbyists and scam artists, technology DOES NOT create energy.  Neither does “science.”  Science and tech can help, but not if human behavior remains unchanged.  In the view of Gail Tverberg (Our Finite World, above), by 2050 the global population will be perforce reduced to about a third of its present level of 7.8 billion.

Energy giveth, and energy taketh away.
