Israel hints at pre-emptive action against Iran

Israel’s defence minister Ehud Barak has hinted that the Jewish state may take pre-emptive action against Iran to foil its nuclear ambitions in case sanctions against the Islamic Republic fail to deter it.

Addressing a gathering at the Israel Defence Forces’ (IDF) National Security College, Barak said his country may have to take “tough and crucial decisions” about its security.

“I am well aware of the difficulties involved in thwarting Iran’s attempts to acquire a nuclear weapon… however, it is clear to me without a doubt that dealing with the threat itself will be far more complicated, far more dangerous and far more costly in resources and human life,” Barak was quoted as saying by the Haaretz online.

Barak also came upon hard on the Arab Spring which swept away many dictatorial regimes in the region, saying that the events of the movement slowly turned into the “Islamic Summer” and teach Israel that at the moment of truth, it can rely only on itself.

Jerusalem officially maintains that “it is keeping all options open on the table” on Iran and so far, ministers here have avoided issuing direct threats preferring the international diplomatic track.

Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters in Iran, on Wednesday voiced confidence that Tehran can beat the latest punitive measures aimed at blocking country’s vital oil and banking industries over its disputed nuclear programme.

“They (the West) explicitly say they need to increase pressures, tighten sanctions to force Iranian authorities to reconsider their calculations,” Khamenei said during a broadcast on state television.

“But a look at the facts leads us not only to avoid reconsidering our calculations, but to move on our intended path with greater confidence,” he emphasised.

The latest European Union sanctions against Iran’s vital oil industry came into effect on July 1, three days after the US tightened measures that prohibit international banks from completing oil transactions with Iranian banks.

    “Fools rush in…”

Amazing that the world wide population of Jews is about 14 million or 14,000,000. About 1/3 to 1/2 of those live in Israel. I guess the others are smarter…

The world wide population of Muslims is about 1.8 billion or 1,800,000,000. of which about 400 million live in the Middle East. Even the Us has over 8 million.

Lets see…that makes the ratio of Jews to Muslims about 1 to 130. And why do the Jews think they can win? Arrogance?

BTW: There are about 36 million new Muslims born every year. That means that the Jews have to kill 100,000 Muslims PER DAY just to keep the ratio even. Hahahahaha….fools! Like a house cat challenging an African lion. Crunch! Burp!

Siddhartha…what 400,000,000? That is just the ones in the Middle East, not the ones in your country. Do you think that the other 1.4 billion are just going to stand by an watch? Or do you think that your country will be filled with rioting Muslims? 8 million in the Us who are Us citizens and thousands who are here in colleges and businesses. You think small…
Many millions more in Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. you cannot go where there are no Muslims…except maybe Antarctica.

No, realism. Since they own America, they have people to do the dirty work for them. Muslims are easy.

Russia and China, that’s a different story alltogether.

@Sidney – “Israel should just nuke all those women hating fascist Muslims and get it over with – 400m dead Muslims = problem solved.”

Congratulations. Our resident humanitarian is definately record holder in advocating killing enormous amounts of people.

@Bill – “Siddhartha…what 400,000,000? That is just the ones in the Middle East, not the ones in your country.”

Everybody can call himself ‘Siddhartha’. Shalom Siddhartha.

Apparently Siddhartha of Herman Hesse talked to Buddha, got disillusioned and subsequently ended up watching the river. If any war comes, there will be rivers of blood. Hesse would definitely have disapproved of such senseless killing; he was virilantly opposed to WWI and called it a war of machines. He would also have been shocked to have seen how far down the road of destruction we have gone.
