The Time Machine in Australia

The Time Machine in Australia thumbnail

The massive brain rot that is observable in the US can perhaps be explained by the “fracking fluid in the drinking water” theory; but what about the rest of the English-speaking world? This is a guest post by Gary Flomenhoft that offers some clues.

I’ve been in Australia (pronounced “Straya”) for four months now. I live in Brisbane and have traveled to Melbourne, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast, and Stradbroke island. I’ve met my share of Australians around the world over the years. They are all “how’ya going, G-Day mate, no worries,” eternal optimists, and very nice people. They all, every single one of them, say thank you to the bus driver when exiting the public bus. They are happy, they are polite, they are kind. They live thousands of miles from most of the world, and haven’t got a care. Go for a surf, eat some prawns or Moreton Bay bugs, hike in the hills, enjoy life! Obsess about cricket, Australian Football League, National Rugby League, Rugby Union, soccer, any kind of sport.

Their Prime Minister Abbot is a doofus, but entirely harmless, like a Koala. His Putin “shirt-front” turned into a friendly photo-op at the G-20, although his outraged sentiment was entirely understandable after the shoot-down of MH17 with so many Australians on board. But Abbot credulously believed the absurd propaganda spewed out by the US, instantly blaming the Russians, and imposing sanctions as a result, without a shred of evidence. If they had evidence, don’t you think they would parade it all over the press? Duh! All the actual evidence so far, including 30mm bullet holes in the cockpit, point to a Ukrainian Airforce jet shooting it down. Australians remind me of the US in the 1950’s, very naïve and innocent, but no cold war, so truly nothing to worry about. But they reminded me of something else too. I just couldn’t put my finger on it… All blond and tanned, perfect hair, perfect bodies, pure and innocent… It suddenly dawned on me! ELOI!

If you don’t remember, Eloi are the surface dwelling people in HG Wells classic story, The Time Machine portrayed in a Hollywood movie. Tell me they don’t look like Strayans! Here’s a random couple of Strayans copied off the net for comparison:

In Wells story, Eloi are the stupefied descendants of the upper class who are bred and fed on by the subterranean dwelling Morlock cannibals, descendants of the working class. Here are the Hollywood versions of Morlocks:

In the story the Eloi don’t ask any questions and line up voluntarily to be food for the Morlocks on a regular basis. So this obviously begs the question. Who are the modern day Morlocks?

Well, let’s start with someone who is shouting an unheeded and unlikely warning, former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser. In his recent book Dangerous Allies, he advocates rethinking Australia’s military alliance with the US. He thinks it’s an obsolete remnant of the cold war, and time for Australians to go their own way, and seek new alliances in Asia, especially with China, Australia’s biggest trading partner, or get sucked into America’s future military hostilities with China. He should know about dangerous allies, as he participated in Governor General John Kerr’s CIA coup to oust Gough Whitlam, the sitting Prime Minister in 1975, becoming the Prime Minister himself. Fraser also vehemently supported the US genocidal war in Indochina, although now he has regrets. Better late than never…

Australians, to a person I have met so far, feel unbridled loyalty to the US for protecting Darwin from Japanese bombing in WWII, and offer unconditional loyalty in return. Just tell us which of your illegal, immoral wars to join, and we’ll be there pronto! Join the latest Christian Crusade against the jihadists in the middle east for no definable reason or benefit, and gee gosh darnit, we’ll be there in a jiffy. Enrage Islamists near and far, who launch ugly acts of revenge on the streets of Sydney and Brisbane? No problem. We’ll suffer anything for our loyal friends the yanks, or Seppos for slang. (Cocknie: Septic Tank, rhymes with Yank. Septic = Seppo) We won’t even give a thought to the consequences… Eloi! Fraser warns that the US has no friends, just interests.

So who are the Morlocks? Those would have to be the neocon psychopaths from the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) who have taken control of US foreign policy, advocating worldwide Empire, full spectrum dominance, and hegemony, like Mr. Torture Dick Cheney. But for a real Morlock that would have to be the Prince of Darkness, Richard Perle, architect of many US covert actions around the world leading to death and destruction everywhere he goes:

Don’t question the neo-con Morlocks, Australian Eloi, just do whatever they say!

But there is another group of Morlocks feeding on the Strayan Eloi, and another unlikely prophet warning Australians, Lynden H. LaRouche Jr. I picked up a CEC rag the other day at UQ. CEC stands for Citizen’s Electoral Council, a LaRouche publication. It was an odd mix of brilliant analysis and questionable assertions. We’ll pick out the good parts. The headline was: Australia, UK Must Join BRICS in New Economic Order! “[This] pathway is being blazed by the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and their allies). It opens up a radically different vista: a new, just world economic order of sovereign nation states, collaborating to ensure the Common Good of all of their citizens. Such cooperation will replace the London/Wall Street “free trade” imperial looting system, ending governments’ “bail-in/bail-out” sponsorship of its “Too Big to Fail” banks (p. 13); halt its sponsorship of al-Qaeda and ISIS to spread chaos worldwide (p. 4) and justify the fascist-style police states at home; and stop its drive for world war.” Pretty good advice I’d say as Australia is following Wall St. and the City of London financial model, which is likely to go down the drain anytime now. CEC warns against NATO encirclement of Russia, and advocates a “Glass-Steagall type legislation to break up the too big to fail banks into commercial and investment banks, as they were until the 1930’s era Glass-Steagall Act was abolished in the US in 1999, setting the stage for the GFC, that’s global financial crisis in Strayan-speak. CEC has a nice chart of derivatives held by Australian “Systemically Important Banks”:

They also advocate a government (not private) Australian central bank returning monetary sovereignty to Australia. Pretty good advice, I’d say.

So who are the Morlock here? We’ll get to that. But first there is one more way the financial Morlocks are eating Strayans for lunch, the cost of housing. Australians pay almost the highest of anyone in the world for real estate. Isn’t that odd in a country of 23 million people slightly smaller in area than the US that has 330 Million? As a result Strayans are in debt peonage for the rest of their lives if they are lucky enough to own anything. Banks own most of the real estate, so it turns out to be another scam for the banks. Government insists there is a housing shortage which is total nonsense. My friends at Prosper Australia have documented for seven years in a row that there are 6-46% speculative vacancies held out of use for capital gains, as well as 50% of properties being owned by absentee owners for investment, ie: capital gains since they often don’t even bother to rent them out. In addition land isn’t taxed high enough to remove the speculative gain, so an asset bubble develops that keeps driving land up and up, until it pops of course inevitably. We’re just not there yet. But keep believing that you’ll get your piece of money for nothing and chicks for free… Eloi! Here is the full explanation.

The Morlock who typifies Wall Street’s parasitic feeding off the Eloi of the world would have to be the one “doing Gods work”, which is Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs. In addition to being a Morlock, he is also a vampire-squid.

So Strayans keep feeding yourselves to the neo-con and Wall St. Morlocks. You’ve got nothing to worry about. Ignorance is bliss.

Club Cat Piss. Club Orlov has jumped in bed with the western MSM in fantasy and surrealism. I guess it is no big deal because much of what we see everywhere is noise. This is understandable in a global system that is nothing more than a system in peak entropy. It is a pity someone so gifted as Dmitry with understanding and wit could turn so ridiculous. It does not matter if he wrote this or not he put his name on it. What a sad example of a good brain turning into a dreg. It seems to be the case today arguments are descending to the lowest common denominator and that my friends is a reflection of our global society.

Davy is 100% right about Orlov

Orlve is spot on. Only thing left of this Idiot society are insults.

I have to note that Orlov totally dissed Rupert Murdock the MorlocK; Australia’s contribution to our fine collection of sociopaths; chief cheerleader for neocon psychopathy. I suppose this wouldn’t fit into his “America is to blame for everything” meme. Seems that Murdock’s manufacturing of consent doesn’t count for much in Dimitri’s small world, no more than his own manufacturing of dissent counts for much these days. Fact is, the Murdocks of the world are kicking the Orlov’s asses when it comes to affective social blabber.

I think Orlov went haywire when his boat survival thingy didn’t work out.

  5. Davy on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 8:55 am

Funny G, I think about Orlov and his sailboat. At the time I was kinda jealous a few years ago when he was in Boston harbor. I have had a dream to live on a spartan sailboat at least in my fantasies of cool could-of-done…s. I wish Orlov would have continued to contribute to the mechanics of dooming and prepping.

Folks dooming and prepping is nothing more than survival orientation. That is the deepest of human instincts. Cornucopianism is Di•o•ny•sian in orientation IOW eat, drink, be merry, all is well and life is good. My doom message says fine enjoy life but take out some insurance. This is boring compared to Orlov’s doom message of hate and conspiracies. Which one is more practical with an approaching train wreck?

An excellent post by Gary Flomenhoft. Love the sense of humour. Really gets a person thinking about the sheer stupidity of human nature.

    A little bit about Gary:

Gary Flomenhoft is an International Post-Graduate (IPRS) and UQ Centennial Scholar and PhD Candidate at CSRM. His research area is the economic value of common wealth and governance of Sovereign Wealth Funds.

Prior to enrolling at SMI, Gary was a faculty member for 11 years in Community and International Development and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont (UVM), serving as a Lecturer in Applied Economics, Renewable Energy, International Development, and Public Policy. He conducted many development projects in The Commonwealth of Dominica, St. Lucia, and Belize with students and local partners. He also originated and coordinated the Green Building Design Program at UVM.

He had a secondary appointment as a Research Associate and Fellow at the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics under Director Robert Constanza. His primary research was in public finance for the state of Vermont including green/environmental taxes, common wealth and common assets, subsidy reform, and public banking. His 2013 report on Vermont public banking formed the basis of the “10% for Vermont” legislation passed in 2014, which allocated $35 million of state funds to local investment. He directed the grant funded Green Tax and Common Assets project at the Gund Institute for seven years, where he originated the Vermont Common Assets Trust Fund (VCAT) bill, which was submitted to the legislature twice. His chapter on Vermont Common Assets appeared in the book “Exporting the Alaska Model”, which promotes the Alaska Permanent Fund and Dividend as a model for basic income around the world using Sovereign Wealth Funds.

Gary’s education includes a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Ecological Economics from the University of Maryland under the supervision of Herman Daly, one of the world leaders in sustainable economics, and originator of the modern day concept of “steady-state economics”. His undergraduate degree is in mechanical engineering from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Prior to entering academia, Gary had a diverse background of practical experience ranging from environmental technology and Green politics, to aerospace and systems engineering. He was a founding member of the Green Party of California, and co-founder of the non-profit Geonomy Society. Gary managed two small electric vehicle companies, and ran his own electric vehicle conversion business. He worked as a Program Assistant for economic development at the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and ran a renewable energy office in Colorado. Other ventures include having been a test engineer for commercial and NASA satellites at TRW and Hughes Aircraft Companies, including the communication satellite for the space shuttle. He has taught secondary school and done vocational education. Gary is also an avid sailor and sailing instructor.

The Oil-Qaeda Morlocks are putting out a mantra for the Eloi doomers who feel that extinction is a natural phenomenon programmed into our genes (On The Origin of Genieology – 3).

Take your extinction in evolutionary stride like the Eugenicists did dear Eloi, like dear Oil-Qaeda leader says.

  8. Dredd on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 9:55 am

And, concerning the fate of the Morlocks:

Mark my words, you plutocrats, denialists, fossil-fuel hacks and science charlatans – your time will come when you will be backed against the wall by the full wrath of billions who have suffered from your greed and stupidity, and I’ll be first in line to put you there” (Mourning Our Planet: Climate Scientists Share Their Grieving Process).

I read a comment by Gail Tverberg on Orlov. She says he has a family, and his blog is one of the main ways he supports himself. To stay relevant in the “doomer” blogosphere, he has to come up with regular feature articles. And add to that the fact that probably a large contingent of his doomer fan base are a bunch of nitwits who might generally hang out on sites like Global Research. Whether or not Orlov believes all the crap he writes is a good question. But obviously, he is catering to his red meat government hating conspiracy loving fan base with every article that gets published on his site. I personally don’t believe that Orlov is stupid enough to believe a lot of what he writes, but I do believe that he thinks his readers are stupid enough to believe it!!

  12. GregT on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 12:14 pm

    Well NWR,

We all know that we have enough oil, coal, and natural gas to last for centuries. At least according to our non-conspiratorial governments who we all should be worshipping because you know, they are here to take care of us!

    No doomer conspiracy nitwits here.

  13. GregT on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 12:28 pm

    On second thought……………

Whenever I do try to talk with pretty much anybody about limits to growth, finite resources, moving from the city to a rural location to grow my own food, etc., their eyes do kind of roll up into the backs of their heads.

Maybe I really am a doomer, conspiracy, nitwit. Who would’ve thunk it?

  14. GregT on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 12:51 pm

    And just for the record,

Whenever I hear criticism directed at the US, or Americans, I automatically assume that us Canadians are included as well. People here are every bit as dumbed down as our good neighbours to the South. 🙂

  15. Davy on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 1:14 pm

Greg, I am hoping I am mentally disturbed and delusional so the horrors ahead are just a figment of my imagination. If I am crazy then I see myself as that old man living on a farm raising cane about doom and prepping like a goofball but no threat to anyone. I’ll just be a crazy old man and maybe everything is fine. Corns tell me everything is fine and there is a happy ending.

GregT, Davy — Remember the conversation about Greece yesterday with the always wrong “expert” on all things European? Here’s another article on that situation in Greece, which being ZH readers you’re sure to find sooner or later anyway, but just to make it easy… This is so true, imo.

  17. Northwest Resident on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 2:55 pm

GregT — Not everybody who reads Orlov or for that matter even Global Research is a nitwit, of course. That “nitwit” is just a slightly affectionate term I use for those doomers and preppers who tend to have an over active imagination, from my point of view, or who are too prone to blame American government for things that the global elite are actually responsible for. Hope I didn’t offend, and I certainly wasn’t thinking of you when I wrote “nitwit”. No way!!!

  20. Makati1 on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 7:40 pm

Ah, the flag wavers come out in droves when Orlov tries to put a mirror in front of their denying faces. Mirrors are illegal in the USSA (and, probably in Canada). The Eloi are being sheered and slaughtered by the millions and they keep waving that flag … right to their end. (47 million on food stamps. US unemployment over 20% in the real world. Millions of children starving and homeless on the US streets. And debt bleeding out of every orifice.)

But then, the same indoctrination has made them the biggest wasters of resources the world has ever seen. Like militarized locusts. Now back to your regularly PROGRAMED life … until it is your turn to bleed.

  21. FriedrichKling on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 8:41 pm

You are kicking back in retirement in the Philipines with your young mama thanks to social security. What are you doing to save your millions of starving?

  22. Makati1 on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 9:12 pm

Friedrich, actually, I am single and have friends here, no marital or sexual or financial connections. At 70, they are not important anymore, just good friends are important. And I help the less fortunate HERE in many ways, including putting one through college, which costs all of $800 per year. What are YOU dong there in America to help the less fortunate?

The USSA is on it’s own way to the 3rd world. I take care of my family as I can, as that is all I can do. Been there, done that, have the memories/experience.

Should you make it to 70+, maybe you will understand my thoughts and feelings, but I doubt it. You cannot see the USSA from the inside. You have to be afraid of saying or doing something that is illegal, or that will get you noticed by the police state around you. You cannot get real news or facts except on the internet which they are trying to control and will, eventually.

Six million poor people gathered in Manila and stood in the rain to see the Pope last week. When have six million Americans gathered in one place for anything in it’s ~240 year history? Cannot get their fat asses off the couch and turn off the boob-tube long enough. “Let someone else do it!”

No, there is no saving the USSA or North America as a continent. The programing is too complete and the populace too dumbed down and feed too many drugs and too much GMO corn.

  23. turningpoint on Tue, 27th Jan 2015 10:06 pm

Makati1, “Millions of children starving and homeless on the US streets.”

Actually, I haven’t seen any homeless kids since the economic meltdown of 2008. I’m not saying they don’t exist, I just haven’t seen any since then.

There was a young teenage homeless girl and her father who used to hang out at a local Vons supermarket. I felt bad for them. I gave her some money from time to time but I haven’t seen or talked them for years. I’m sure now that the economy is much better, they both have jobs and or she’s in college.

“When have six million Americans gathered in one place for anything in it’s ~240 year history?”

Well, I don’t know about 6 million but about one million people show up every year, at the same time, in Time Square New York to ring in the new year.

Although I do agree, we have serious problems, I think your current assessment of this country may be a little off.

  24. Makati1 on Wed, 28th Jan 2015 1:21 am

Hahaha…well, you are a perfect example of my typical American. Blind to reality because you have not tripped over a homeless child begging or a starving one. The US is just better at covering up the homeless and the starving than most 3rd world countries. American bias blinds you to what exists in the US but is NOT in the elite sponsored news.

In the U.S., more than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year.
35% of the homeless population are families with children, which is the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
    23% are U.S. military veterans.
25% are children under the age of 18 years.
    30% have experienced domestic violence.
    20-25% suffer from mental illness.
In urban communities, people experience homelessness for an average of eight months.”

“Children were food insecure at times during the year in 10.0 percent of households with children. These 3.9 million households were unable at times during the year to provide adequate, nutritious food for their children”

Realty can be ignored, but the consequences cannot.

Malcolm Fraser is nothing but a pinko pekingnese lapdog who thinks Australia will do well to bow and scrape like a vassal state to aging old China. Mad Mal knows not of Chinese demographics. Australia’s biggest flaw is putting its eggs in one basket, a policy senile old Mal Fraser advocates, hence the reason he was voted out back in 1983.

  26. Davy on Wed, 28th Jan 2015 3:41 am

Mak, you are an example of a righteous dick. You claim moral and ethical superiority but are nothing but a failure. You are a barking dog or hate and recriminations. While I have no bad feelings for the lovely country and the people of the Philippines your constant bragging and boasting about the country makes me sick. You make statements about the US that are part of your agenda of hate and divisions. The other part of your agenda is glorifying Asia. You have no legs to stand on Mak with any statements comparing your Asian nightmare to what you claim the US is in. At any level Asia is as bad or worse as the US.

Mak, you are a 70 year old bag of shit ready to move off into the jungle to live a short and uncomfortable existence. I am in my 50’s and the same may await me but I do not claim I am going to be fine and dandy. You act like you got a club med awaiting you. Asia and the Philippines are in a population and carrying capacity overshoot that puts you in the worst possible situation in the world. There is little hope for that region at the basic level of carrying capacity. There are 4BIL people that surround you and in your small backyard there are 100MIL Mak. 100MIL in the space of Arizona do the math Mak. Other local places in the world have some hope but you have none. What a pathetic whiner facing a painful end.

As an Australian myself, I am ashamed to say that, as a nation we are as dumb as a brick.
The article is correct. We follow blindly the U.S. and Britain toward destruction in the absurd pursuit of perpetual growth.
