Really, Freud? How old are you anyway?

Yes, I can make references to Freud. Is there a modern equivalent of playing on one's fear/reward buttons?

A bit related..... This year 2019 is presidential election year here in Panama. Elections are in May. There is a law here in Panama around campaigning and political advertisements , TV ads, billboards etc.

They are prohibited to start before March 4th. In other words they just began. That is only 8 weeks time where the public is exposed to ads, campaigning, town halls, TV commercials.

I think this is a good idea.

What about for the USA. Would something like this be positive

Opinions?

Sounds good but would not work in practice. The incumbents use every day they are in office to make themselves look good for reelection and their opponents use every means every day to sabotage those efforts and both sides play the media into being their spokesman.

Beto just announced for President.

IMHO he has a very good shot at the nomination. First of all, he has big hair and protruding teeth, giving him a Kennedyesque look. The Ds LOVE candidates with big hair and the more Kennedy vibe they put out the better.

Second, he is young. Beto is only 46. Most of the D candidates are geriatric old dinosaurs like Bernie and Pocahontas. Beto’s youthful energy is going to attract a lot of support.

Third the MSM LOVE BETO. All the media coverage has been positive and flattering. So much so that Warren and Gillibrand’s supporters are crying foul and claiming the media is discriminating against them because they are women. Most people in the US never read the news and know almost nothing about politics. Positive media coverage can win a lot of votes.

AND FOURTH....Beto is a liar and a dissembler. He isn’t taking stands on anything. When asked if he wears boxers or briefs he answered....”Kind of boxer briefs.”

And FINALLY, His name is Beto. Beto is 100% a white Caucasian male, but his nickname Beto is Hispanic. This will be confusing for many D voters and give him street cred with those young Ds who don’t to vote for a white Caucasian male. Also, Beto is weird and ethnic sounding, like Barrack, and will appeal to those Ds who feel liberal and sophisticated when they vote for someone with a foreign sounding name.

BETO CAN DO IT. BETO WILL BE THE D NOMINEEE IN 2020.

If I was a Democrat I would be looking for someone with more going for him then big hair.
But the Dems do seem bent on finding the nominee that Trump can beat handily in spite of his numerous shortcomings so perhaps you are right.

I think that Pete Buttigieg and Beto O'Rourke are male bimbos, though it is hard to compete with Elizabeth Warren in substantive policy proposals. I like Liz Warren, though I think that she's getting on in age. Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden seem to me to be rather old, though I like Bernie Sanders.

That leaves Kamala Harris, though she's running away from her career as top cop rather than using it for hippie-punching.

I like Pete and Beto.

Weird as they are, they seem like the most normal candidates in the whole D field.

Cheers!

To me, that's the real question. Can the D's manage to run a credible not-too-far left wing candidate, and NOT have far loony left wishful thinking platform elements?

If they can, I think many of the middle ground voters aren't going to be enthusiastic about voting for Trump again.

So the race is the dem's to lose. Given their track record and lack of economic perception, I wouldn't be surprised if they manage to lose it, since Trump isn't going to be impeached on "dems don't like him" vs. solid evidence.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Given the bizarre cast of characters running for the D nomination, I think they agree with you. All 20+ of them are weird in one way or another.

I'm still rooting for Beto or Pete. I'd really like to see the two of them team up and jointly run for president on a job-share basis.

They should join forces and run as Peto. Or as Bete.

Cheers!

Time to face up to an unpleasant truth for most of you D's. Trump will take on all comers in 2020 and beat them handily. This will happen because:

1) The incumbent has the advantage, good in most elections for 10% to 20% of the vote. I would place this one at 10% because a lot of R's do in fact detest Trump the man.

2) The economy is booming. In fact, organized labor is beside itself with joy at the China trade sanctions bumping up from 10% to 25%. For the first time in decades, the US workers have some protection from those who labor largely for money with few employer benefits. There is a decent chance that the new generation of organized labor leaders will encourage their members to vote for the R's, which has not happened since somebody rubbed out Jimmy Hoffa. ( You knew why he was killed by the head of the only large D political machine left, didn't you? )

3) Trump has an gargantuan campaign fund that started with money not spent in 2016. Appreciate for one moment the advantage this brings. Trump has more money today than all 20 of the D's wanna-be-presidents put together, before he even touches his own money. He can spend so much in the media that the media itself dares not favor the D's openly, something not true since Ronald Reagan was the R candidate.

4) The summary Mueller investigation was just published, and Trump was exonerated by it. The multiple-hundred-page version cannot be leaked without ending the career of the leaker, and all the D's who signed the non-disclosure agreement are very much aware of this. Still, if one of this group of D's were to die, that copy would leak to the media in a heartbeat's time. Which is why all those D politicians are looking over their shoulder, wondering when the assassin hired by George Soros will strike. (You heard it here first.)(The usual disclaimers, this is a guess, but are any of you interested in a dead pool of that group of D's?)

Because after all, the stakes in this game are all the marbles, which group of criminals gets to sell the White House for another 4 years. The shear entertainment value will be grand, although it will go on for 6 months more than any of us want.

Unfortunately, all the hot air that will soon be spewed from the politicians talking will bump up both the CO2 and the AGW figures, as it does every two years
