What about Pakistan and Bangladesh and Indonesia where Roman Catholics are vanishingly rare? Or China and India? Point being blaming religion is a crutch to avoid looking at all causes of high birth rate instead of whatever faith you personally find distasteful.

For your info, I mostly haven't voted for Democrats for the last few decades, especially at the presidential level.

I would ask that we not have yet another thread devolve into population issues. But I'll just point out that if we really brought consumption down to minimal levels, it wouldn't matter much where people live.

In general, though, its better if we can manage a situation where people remain in or near wherever they have traditionally lived. I'm sure they would mostly prefer that, too.

Dohboi,
YOU started this thread WHY CAN SOME CONERVATIVES....

I and others have been trying to point out that this premis is false. It's not really a L/R divide but one of actually accepting understanding the science as opposed to taking a stance based upon L/R affiliation.

If your above post is accepting of that then great.

The immigration issue only came up as an instance where the L is traditional dismissive of the science.

I'm just trying to point out the middle ground where we all agree, trying to reduce the hate.

There's nothing false about the premise. Many polls show that most (especially older) conservatives don't accept GW science. It becomes almost universal when you get up to the level of Republican Congressional leaders.

It shouldn't be political, but the facts on the ground show that, on this issue, it is.

And Ds can't accept immigration control.

Try to get over finding ways to separate us and make one side the enemy of the other, it does no good.

Try to find ways to work together. That's more challenging but where we need to go.

OMG, did you read my first post on this thread?

It is about admiring those conservative here on these threads who can see past ideology to accept the science of GW.

How is that divisive?

Doh,

It decisive because you treat conservatives/republicans as if they were a separate race. You profile folks by party affiliation.

Your last post implies you do not want to be devisive. If that's the case then good.

The devices ends is not as bad as back during Nam but working in that direction. I'd like to stop that.

Not sure the claim you make can be supported by what I have posted

But look, conservatives (and others) have just elected someone who has made many of my friends, my neighbors, my relatives...very nervous about their very basic future f'n safety.

If you are really interested in everyone understanding where everyone is coming from, then grok this:

You are basically asking Jews to just understand and get along with Nazis the morning after kristallnact...at the least...its a...tall order!!!

Do you see SS troops and the KKK standing on your street corners waiting for orders from Der TrumpFührer to start rounding people up?

I've never understood this fear from the left. Unless you are projecting the actions you would take against us to insure your socialist utopia. Its not the right who are rioting in Portland and North Dakota, and it isn't the right who have put a bounty on killing police officers.

What you don't understand is that YOU are the one fanning the hysteria for own agenda. I see you as a worse biggot than Trump and more freightning.

Edit....
I would like to add this.

I hear that you and your cohort are scared, frightened. I hear that you are uncomfortable and that is not a nice place to be.

I do not understand WHY you have these feelings.

Perhaps you can not understand and why you frighten me. I doubt that you intend to do that, but you do.

My neighborhood is made up largely of the following:

Muslims
Native Americans
LBGTQ
Latinos
Actual leftists (not just middle of the road Dems)
African Americans
Asian Americans
Homeless
Academics
Disabled...

If you can't figure out why all or some of these people have very legitimate reasons to be nervous about a Trump presidency, you haven't been paying much attention to what he (and his followers and those he has appointed to be on his staff...) have been saying.

(And thanks for proving that you are truly and deeply sincere about wanting to reach across the political divide by calling me a bigot for opposing hate speech and for pointing out white and other privilege...that really warms my heart!!   )
