Keith....great post!

And there's your answer right there. Climate change is NOT being amplified in Australia. Its less then it is at high latitudes and it isn't much different then other areas at the same latitude.

What is going on in Australia is that global warming is driving desertification.....

The reason the effects of global warming are so dramatic in Australia with the longer and more intense fire season is because Australia is mostly an enormous inland desert surrounded by thin belts of temperate forests around the edges. As global warming continues the boundary (or ecotone) between the inland desert and the coastal forests is shifting as the desert expands in response to global warming. The forests in the boundary regions are no longer compatible with the new warmer climate and they are burning off, to be replaced by grasslands and deserts more in equilibrium with the new, warming climate.

Its the same thing in California where there are grasslands and deserts in the south and forests in the north. As the climate warms the forests are out of equilibrium with the new climate....which is more suitable to grasslands and deserts like those just to the south today. So the forests dry out and then burn off.

Climate change is certainly being amplified in fashion:

We probably should start a separate thread if we're going to discuss the latest swimsuit fashions for the coming apocalypse.

I like your post a lot, but it seemed tame to me.

Personally, I think the hottest swimsuit fad of the last year was the "upside down bikini top" look.

upside-down-bikinis

When I see an upside down bikini top on a girl who is also wearing a thong bottom.....then I am very impressed with her fashion sense!

The upside-down bikini reminds me of the Volkswagen Beetle or Van (for the heavier models) when they had those eyelid headlights. Yes, the days when we thought a utopia was right around the corner for us bipeds.

I still feel that way when I see a bikini.

Cattle have stopped breeding, koalas die of thirst: A vet's hellish diary of climate change

I once assisted farmers who have spent their lives developing breeding programs, with historic bloodlines that go back 80 years. These stud farmers are now left with a handful of breeders that they can’t bear to part with, spending thousands keeping them fed, and going broke doing it.

Cattle that sold for thousands are now in the sale yards at $70 a head. Those classed as too skinny for sale are costing the farmer $130 to be destroyed.

They are all gone and it was all for nothing. The paddocks are bare, the dams dry, the grass crispy and brown. The whole region has been completely destocked and is devoid of life.

On land, Australia’s rising heat is ‘apocalyptic.’ In the ocean, it’s worse.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/world/climate-environment/climate-change-tasmania/

Climate change had arrived at this island near the bottom of the world, and the giant kelp that flourished in its cold waters was among the first things to go.

Over recent decades, the rate of ocean warming off Tasmania, Australia’s southernmost state and a gateway to the South Pole, has climbed to nearly four times the global average, oceanographers say.

Temperatures rocket in Australia's Antarctic gateway
https://www.yahoo.com/news/temperatures ... 17203.html

For Australians looking to escape the scorching summer heat, Tasmania, the country's closest point to the South Pole, is usually a safe bet.

But that wasn't the case on Monday (December 30) when temperatures in the icy cool island's capital Hobart soared to a devilish 40.8 degrees Celsius, or 105.4 Fahrenheit.

That's the city's hottest day on record - double the average summer temperature and even higher than in some parts of the country's tropical north.

Weird ‘hot blob’ appears near New Zealand
A massive “hot blob” has been spotted floating near our neighbours in New Zealand. Now experts have explained the strange phenomenon.

https://www.news.com.au/technology/envi ... 064731eb29

It’s the summer marine heatwave attracting huge attention – a massive blob of hot water off the eastern coast of New Zealand.

Right now the southern reaches of the Pacific Ocean is one of the warmest sea spots on the planet with temperatures of up to 20C appearing as a bright red blob on satellite images, the NZ Herald reports.

Professor James Renwick, a weather and climate researcher at Victoria University, has a simple explanation for the phenomenon: “It’s just a patch of water that’s had a lot of sunny skies and not much wind”.

In fact, a very big patch of water measuring tens of thousands of square kilometres where the water is 4C above the average temperature of 10c to 15C on a similar latitude to Wellington in the Pacific Ocean.

The central hot spot is about the size of the North Island (114,000sq km) or the South Island (150,000sq km). The wider area is larger than both islands combined.

“Sea temperatures don’t actually vary too much and a degree, plus or minus, is quite a big deal and this area is probably four degrees or more than that above average and that’s pretty huge.

“Right in the centre of the “blob” it’s likely to be more than six degrees warmer than average.
