Upton Sinclair quotations:
“..there was nothing to do but to dig away at the base of this mountain of ignorance and prejudice. You must keep at the poor fellow; you must hold your temper, and argue with him, and watch for your chance to stick an idea or two into his head. And the rest of the time you must sharpen up your weapons- you must think out new replies to his objections and provide yourself with new facts to prove to him the folly of his ways.”
~ Upton Sinclair
“Say the very simplest and most obvious things, say them as often as possible, and put into the saying all the screaming passion which one human voice can carry -- that was Adolf Hitler's technique. No matter whether it was true or not -- for (Hitler) meant literally his maxim that the bigger the falsehood, the easier to get it believed; people would say you wouldn't dare make up a thing like that. Imagine the worst possible about your enemies and then swear that you knew it, you had seed it, it was God's truth and you were ready to stake your life upon it -- shout this, bellow this, over and over, day after day, night after night...when ten million join in it becomes history.”
~ Upton Sinclair
“They would tell you that governments could not manage things as economically as private individuals; they would repeat and repeat that, and think they were saying something! They could not see that “economical” management by masters meant simply that they, the people, were worked harder and ground closer and paid less!
They were wage-earners and servants, at the mercy of exploiters whose one thought was to get as much out of them as possible; and they were taking an interest in the process, were anxious lest it should not be done thoroughly enough! Was it not honestly a trial to listen to an argument such as that?
And yet there were things even worse. You would begin talking to some poor devil who had worked in one shop for the last thirty years, and had never been able to save a penny; who left home every morning at six o’clock, to go and tend a machine, and come back at night too tired to take his clothes off; who had never had a week’s vacation in his life, had never traveled, never had an adventure, never learned anything, never hoped anything—and when you started to tell him about Socialism he would sniff and say, “I’m not interested in that—I’m an individualist!” And then he would go on to tell you that Socialism was “paternalism,” and that if it ever had its way the world would stop progressing.
It was enough to make a mule laugh, to hear arguments like that; and yet it was no laughing matter, as you found out—for how many millions of such poor deluded wretches there were, whose lives had been so stunted by capitalism that they no longer knew what freedom was!
And they really thought that it was “individualism” for tens of thousands of them to herd together and obey the orders of a steel magnate, and produce hundreds of millions of dollars of wealth for him, and then let him give them libraries; while for them to take the industry, and run it to suit themselves, and build their own libraries—that would have been “Paternalism”!”
~ Upton Sinclair, The Jungle
“A world conqueror had appeared in modern times. Alexander, Caesar, Attila, Genghis Khan, Napoleon—another such as these, appearing in the age of electricity, of rotary presses and radio, when nine men out of ten would have said it was impossible. A world conqueror has to be a man of few ideas, and those fixed; a peculiar combination of exactly the right qualities, both good and bad—iron determination, irresistible energy, and no scruples of any sort. He has to know what he wants, and permit no obstacle to stand in the way of his getting it. He has to understand the minds of other men, both foes and friends, and what greeds, fears, hates, jealousies will move them to action. He must understand the mass mind, the ideals or delusions which sway it; he must be enough of a fanatic to talk their language, though not enough to be controlled by it. He must believe in nothing but his own destiny, the glorified image of himself on the screen of history; whole races of mankind made over in his own image and according to his will. To accomplish that purpose he must be liar, thief, and murderer upon a world-wide scale; he must be ready without hesitation to commit every crime his own interest commands, whether upon individuals or nations.”
~ Upton Sinclair, Dragon's Teeth
“If you wanted to understand a politician you mustn’t pay too much attention to his speeches, but find out who were his paymasters. A politician couldn’t rise in public life, in France any more than in America, unless he had the backing of big money, and it was in times of crisis like this that he paid his debts. X”
~ Upton Sinclair, World's End
Cog wrote:While I admire the effort to mandatorily report an illegal trying to purchase a firearm, there is a lot in the other parts of the bill that infringes on the Second Amendment rights of American citizens.
For instance, by law the FBI is allowed three days using the NIC system to either deny or approve your gun purchase. If there is not a result either way, then the transaction can go ahead. The new law states that if you have no approval by ten days, you have to appeal to the attorney general in federal court. After 20 days with no approval or disapproval, the gun purchase is automatically disapproved. That removes the onus on the government to prove you are ineligible to purchase a firearm. The government can just run out the clock on you and say they are too busy to check your status.
This bill is dead on arrival in the Senate and Trump already said he would veto it. There are numerous other gun legislation out there by the Dems. Assault weapons bans, magazine bans, universal background checks so every gun purchase must go through a FFL, Red Flag laws which permit guns to be seized without due process.
And yet there were things even worse. D Women are coming forward and accusing Joe of shuffling slowly up behind them and then sniffing their hair. And then he kisses them on top of their heads! It grosses them out and makes them feel violated.
In the “me too” era, Joe has just been outed as a creepy old serial hair sniffer.
And who wants a creepy old hair sniffer as our president. Elizabeth Warren is now demanding that Joe explain himself. But how can he possibly explain his creepy behavior except by admitting that he is a creep?

The problem is that all these Democrat (and many Republican) candidates are PC sock puppets who may as well be replaced by marionettes.
