Here's what's still not working with the site. Please fix

Unread postby vox_mundi » Fri 14 Oct 2016, 11:42:16

There still appears to be a number of bugs in the site's code ...

Before

When logging on from the peakoil.com home page the system would update the page, say 'Welcome vox (or whoever)' and show your Avatar.

Now

Nothing.

No indication that the log-in was successful (even when it is).
This may be cosmetic but I think it reflects a more systemic problem.

Also, along with the missing avatar - the PM indicator is missing

Before

When selecting the 'Forum Posts Member View' from the left hand menu, the complete list of previous posts (both read and unread) would appear. (and accumulate until you logged out)

Now

When selecting the 'Forum Posts Member View' from the left hand menu, only an abbreviated lists of unread posts from the past few hours appears.

This is a real drag because some threads do not have entries on a daily basis.

I can't even see my previous posts from yesterday. I have to select 'View your posts'. However, if I select that view, then I can't see any topic or thread that I haven't posted in.

As an example:

Plant entered a post yesterday at Thu Oct 13, 2016 6:24 pm in the Climate Chaos Is Here Pt. 3 (Environment Forum) thread.

I have not read the post yet. (unread flag)

However, this thread is ONLY visible from my 'View your posts' selector. It does NOT appear in the Forum Posts Member View.

This should not be.

Before

All Forums were available to members

Now

Current Events Forum is still not available to members. It gives the following dialog ...

You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.

The 'newposts' page reset needs to go, it is truly shit. I want to open one page & see what has been going on since I last opened, not a reset page of 'new posts (since some arbitrary clock time)'. I do not want to have to go hunting to see who replied to posts made yesterday or the day before. My bet is nobody else here does either. Please fix this urgently admin, it is killing the forum.

I agree

The list of new posts is now much too short.

Please lengthen

Thanks!

Howdy folks, I do not have the technical expertise to know the difficulties of operating a website like this. I know that it was working quite well and now it is not. Maybe it is time to use the restore function?

It seems th Guest Biew list is MUCH longer than the Member View list. Weird.

But Current Events is now accessible! :-D

Thanks

At least can a moderator tell us what the hell is going on? Three times at least in 24 hours, this unnecessary & destructive time wasting reset has occured, for the umpteenth time since I complained about it. Newposts (member view) has always been a valid timeline with rare resets. What is going on? Why is it so hard to find out?

Seagypsy,

My understanding is that admin is spinning several plates and address improvements when there is a window of time to do so. I know this from when I work on my own website. It is not a task you do in a minute, you have to budget time and immerse yourself in all the nuts and bolts. This will get addressed when the admin has time to do it. There seems to be just a couple of tweaks required at this point. Patience.

SeaGypsy I can answer one of these two problems now that I have a working computer again. I had a graphic card die and take out my hard drive so I had to dig an old tower out of storage and took two days assembling a working desktop unit from parts.

Anyhow try this. Click on the

Forum Posts
Guest View

tab on the side menu. Scroll to the bottom. Just below the bottom of the list are settings for what you want the system to display when you hit that tab. Make sure the
Display posts from previous
is set to
All results
and click the GO button.

Look at your name on the right side of your last posted message.
Right underneath your stats is a little silhouette with the letters PM on it.
Click that button.
You should also see it under everyone else name as well.

The main issues I'm currently experiencing with this web site is that the Members Forum Posts View does not show threads that I've already read (it used to show a grayed-out icon next to the thread title) and most of the images on recent threads that I (and others) have posted do not load. My avatar image does not load anymore either, but everyone else's avatars I can see. The Members View always loads the last 1000 posts!

???

I am using a Mac desktop (v.10.10) (and sometimes my MacBook Pro) and Safari is the browser. Maybe I should use Google Chrome?

Do I need to load the most recent version of the Mac OS? I don't seem to have any problems with other websites...

It's not your Mac

It does the same thing on Chrome, Firefox, Android, etc.

I have to check 3 forum list (Members Only, non-members, and my own postings list) to figure out the continuity of a thread. It probably impacts the number of eyeballs visiting the site.

I'm taking the Zen approach right now.
