Greta Thunberg's Voyage Pt. 2

Re: Greta Thunberg's Voyage Pt. 2

Now the Prime Minister of Australia is in a twitter war with Greta. Greta tweeted that perhaps Australia should be more concerned about climate change, since they are in a fire catastrophe caused by multi-year drought and successive heat waves.

The Australian PM would have none of it, and told Greta to he wasn't there to "impress people overseas."

https://www.newsweek.com/australian-prime-minister-scott-morrison-greta-thunberg-impress-people-overseas-1478772

Well...the Australian PM is getting his wish. He isn't impressing anybody by vacationing in Hawaii while his country burns up, and then denying that climate change might have something to do with the longer and hotter and more intense fire seasons they are experiencing in Australia.

Image
How is it possible that Australia is suffering worse and worse fire seasons as the climate warms, and yet their PM won't acknowledge the climate is warming? Its utterly bizarre---the Australian PM isn't impressing anybody.

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” Upton Sinclair

Morrison knows where the money comes from, and he's not going to say anything that jeopardises his paychecks for coal to China.

Even if his country burns up, he will turn a blind eye to the causes.

It took filibustering in the 30's until dust blew into the halls of congress before they did anything about the dust bowl.

https://weta.org/tv/program/dust-bowl/perfectstorm

It would be nice if something similar could happen in Australia.

Alas, it's a world wide problem, and we don't seem to be able to come together for a solution.

World political leaders and corporate billionaires are getting ready to fly into DAVOS Switzerland in their private jets for their annual get-together and Greta is denouncing them as climate criminals and demanding they change their evil ways and act like world leaders and do something about climate change.

Good to see Greta is still speaking truth to power.

Greta has almost fallen out of the news cycle, but here comes Davos. It might get her back on the news again. We'll see...

How did it happen; a bunch of people with destruction in mind, and a book of matches. Over 200 people arrested for arson. This is psychosis, not climate.

Greta is a hijacked figure from the climate extremist engaged in political intrigue. I am not saying this is bad or good but more deceptive and disingenuous. There is little in the world these days not hijacked by lies. It becomes more a relative state of which lies are worse. Climate is a huge issue in my mind but the solutions are fake in regards to reality with many proposals for solutions. It reminds me of a Hollywood movie that is based on reality but portrayed by fiction. You don't conclude traps with carbon or path dependencies of human nature. Climate people whine and whine about climate then propose solutions that do not reality test in regards to science or economics. The science of climate change is real but the politics and solutions often fake. They are less fake than the status quo of our world of brown fossil fuels and late stage capitalism so in that regards less bad. Still lies are lies and unless people understand their lies they are compromised. Compromised people may mean well but do damage nonetheless. It is like Christianity and the inquisition. Lies propagate too then before you know it a good movement is bad. Greta is compromised by a movement that lives in lies. Fossil fuel lies are worse granted but if you are honest you will not put Greta or the movement on a pedestal. You accept failure and look soberly on a life dominated by a trap that is the human predicament of the end of growth.

Real,

You are quite correct. One of the problems is that we have short attention spans, short future attention spans; if it ain't gonna hit us upside the head soon we ignore it.

That is why it is important to think about and formalize those things you believe important, to memorialize and track your values. Then you can go back to them and test them (Is this still a major issue?) and test new inputs (Is this really important.)

By illustration, after years of consideration i came up with my personal list, which I limit to 5 most important items:
1- over population
2- drug resistant bacteria, virus, whatever
3- over extended and over complex global financial system
4- resource depletion: soil, water, etc.
5- climate change

There are things left off (e.g. species extinction) but i think if we dealt with these 5 we would also make good headway on those other items as well, or maybe i need to modify my list.

Looking at the USA political environment in view of this list it becomes clear neither party is significantly better than the other. Some way other then must be found. This is why I do not vote. I DO advocate for other causes;
Political finance reform
Term limits
The destruction of the political parties
E.O. Wilsons Half Earth Project
Buying land to keep dormant
Living lightly: reduce, reuse, recycle

Which is why I tweaked this thread; to demonstrate how what we were all worked up about 9 months ago is now ancient history. We have no consistency of thought, of purpose, of action.

I sense I am preaching to the choir when talking to you, but perhaps others may listen in as well. In the meantime I follow the news and current events; but more to gage where the herd is running to avoid being trampled. So far so good! LOL

I collected acorns of a tropical oak species 9 years ago when hiking to the top of Mount Totumas. There are now about 20 trees around our common area approaching 25 feet tall. It has been a consistent pleasure to watch them grow, it was an action of collecting those seeds whose purpose will one day when I am long gone provide shade, sequester carbon, be a perch for birds, a few providing fence posts, a few growing ancient and surviving the entire cycle of human ecological overshoot!

Sweden just honored Greta Thunberg by featuring her on a new postage stamp

Greta Thunberg just bashed Joe Biden for "ignoring the science" and "for not doing nearly enough" on climate change

not-nearly-enough-greta-bashes-biden-lackluster-climate-action

Greta apparently thinks Joe saying nice things about climate change isn't enough.

For some crazy reason Greta thinks Biden and the Ds should actually listen to scientists and enact laws and take actions to do concrete things to reduce global CO2 emissions.

Come on, Greta....cut Joe some slack. Surely you can't expect Joe to actually keep his campaign promises.........figure it out----Joe Biden is just another a liar like all politicians.....

She's pretty much settled into her role as environmental superstar now. I like Greta because she's just so single-minded in her approach to climate change issues. She refrains from criticizing others who buy new cars or who fly in airplanes and she won't criticize countries like China or India who are rapidly increasing their carbon output. She acknowledges that it is silly for her to take credit for reducing her own carbon footprint by sailing across the ocean because any individual's carbon output is so insignificant (except people like John Kerry or Al Gore, of course, who fly everywhere in private jets).

What Greta is focussed on is getting countries to take steps to reduce their CO2 emissions now. Thats why she is so critical of people like Joe Biden and phony deals like the Paris Climate Accords and the corporate "greenwashing" of the climate change problem instead of solving the climate problem.

Greta wants to see CO2 reductions NOW.....not these phony promises in the Paris Climate Accords to begin reducing CO2 by 2030 or 2050 or whenever. She wants progress to be made NOW.

Brit students angry after Winchester University erects statue of Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg statue at Winchester U hacks off students

I'll never get why so many get so wee-wee'd up over statutes.

Obviously Greta Thunberg has been an inspiration to many people, both young and old.

The students are complaining that this was a "vanity" project. But apparently they don't even know what the word vanity means.

Its not like Greta Thunberg put this statue of herself up. The statue is being put up by the university to honor Greta and to inspire other young people. Greta had nothing to do with it....other then being the inspiration.

PBS is going to broadcast a special three-part program about Greta Thunberg. PBS and BBC cooperated in following Greta for a year as she fights to save the planet and all humankind from the ravages of global warming and the evil politicians who won't do anything about this impending global disaster!

As a big Greta Thunberg fan, I can hardly wait.

PBS is doing some great shows this year. The 3 part Ernest Hemmingway biopic on right now is really splendid.......and the only thing that could possibly be better then Ernest Hemingway would be Greta Thunberg.

Greta Thunberg says she won't go to the International Climate meeting in Scotland later this year unless the world achieves equity in the distribution of covid vaccines.

Ooopsies.....Greta just jumped the shark.

She's got some followers and she's got some credibility when it comes to climate change issues, but I think its a mistake for Greta to imagine that she can now make threats not to participate in climate change events unless the world does want she wants it to do concerning covid.

I am the wise and powerful Greta Thunberg and the world must give everyone Covid vaccine or I won't go to the climate change conference!!!

How dare those countries be too poor to buy enough vaccine for their citizens! Unfortunately, if we really want to eradicate this virus as much as possible and reopen the world to travel we need to help third world countries vaccinate their people.
