“Typhoons Ravage China’s Bread Basket, Worrying Farmers”
http://www.sixthtone.com/news/1006153/t ... ng-farmers

“After rampaging through Japan and South Korea, Typhoon Haishen has unleashed a torrent of heavy rain and high winds on Northeast China since Tuesday, dealing another blow to the country’s agricultural heartland that had already endured two other storms in recent weeks. The inclement weather has further damaged the region where another typhoon, Maysak, flattened corn fields and submerged rice paddies while also raising the flood risk posed by dozens of rivers, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency. Authorities in the affected provinces — Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang — have been on high alert, with the heavy rainfall expected to continue. The forecast is bad news for the hundred million-plus residents of Northeast China, a region known as China’s bread basket, as locals’ livelihoods depend heavily on agriculture. In 2018, the three provinces accounted for 20% of the country’s total food production”

No one covering Sally?

Meanwhile, there's a tropical cyclone in the Mediterranean right now! Possibly reaching hurricane strength before slamming into Greece.

Anyone have any idea how (un-)usual that is?

From Wikipedia:
On a few rare occasions, some storms have been observed reaching the strength of a Category 1 hurricane. The main societal hazard posed by Medicanes is not usually from destructive winds, but through life-threatening torrential rains and flash floods. The occurrence of Medicanes has been described as not particularly rare.

Hurricane Teddy is another one to watch.

Currently a cat 2, projected to become a cat 4.

spaghetti models suggest it could hit in the Maine - New Brunswick - Nova Scotia area.
Though most models show it staying further out to sea:

Thanks, T. I liked "Medicanes"--sounds like an advertiser's name for forms of cocaine used for medical purposes!

I was afraid my Medicare would be wrenched away by those 'canes'.
