It would seem the entertainment consists of hurling insults at one another.

Much more interesting that discussing possible future pathways.

Bartlett thought humanity’s biggest failure was not understanding the logarithmic function.

I think it’s our inability to let the past go (Balkanization) and turn to the future where we have the ability to do something positive.

What and when are the next round of climate negotiations?

Funny how these discussions here at our resort among our guests when they rarely do happen are always civil.

If anyone comes to this site for much of anything beyond entertainment then one must then reflect on the social dificiencies one is sufferin in their organic social life that they come expecting something more.

The UNFCCC continues to hold meetings, with the next one scheduled for Bonn, Germany in 2019. I'm not sure what the focus of this upcoming meeting will be.

There isn't much for them to do now that they are locked into the Paris Accords except watch global CO2 emissions continue to rise and wait for global temperatures to exceed the limit of 2°C agreed upon in Paris in 2015.

Arctic pact scuttled by USA.

The United States has refused to sign an agreement on challenges in the Arctic due to discrepancies over climate change wording, diplomats said on Tuesday, jeopardizing cooperation in the polar region at the sharp edge of global warming.

With Arctic temperatures rising at twice the rate of the rest of the globe, the melting ice is creating potential new shipping lanes and has opened much of the world’s last untapped reserves of oil and gas to commercial exploitation .

A meeting of eight nations bordering the Arctic in Rovaniemi in Finland on Tuesday was supposed to frame a two-year agenda to balance the challenge of global warming with sustainable development of mineral wealth.

No not “Thanks Trump.”

He has given you the gift of being a convenient person to blame. Precious little has been done during Democratic Presidencies.

If you don’t like what he does then ask yourself what POSITIVE CONCRETE steps you have done to forward your position. Which of the 21 (22?) prospective Democrat candidates has a cohesive and intelligent suggested platform for dealing with Climate Change? (None) Writing letters bitching to congressmen doesn’t count, that’s just being a bitch.

The world now subsidizes fossil fuels by $5.7 trillion dollars, according to the latest estimates published by the IMF. The biggest contributors are:
China—$1.4T
U.S.—$649B
Russia—$551B
EU—$239 billion
India—$209 billion

Here's the download link: imf.org/~/media/Files/… 1/

https://twitter.com/tsrandall/status/11 ... 3835696128

- Since the language of the Paris Climate Accord was adopted, subsidies of fossil fuels have actually increased—by 11%.

Coal and oil accounted for 85% of the global $5.7 trillion subsidy bill. Renewable power, which isn’t included, gets just $140B. 2/

- The $5.7 trillion fossil fuel subsidy figure includes externalities that aren’t included in the price of fuel: environmental destruction, human illness from pollution, etc. Direct subsidies (pre-tax) are much narrower: $296 billion in 2017. 3/ pic.twitter.com/Y8Ny91XM6f
- The dip in direct fossil-fuel subsidies shown above is primarily a reflection of cheaper prices. Higher prices will bring back subsidies. There's also been subsidy reform in a few oil-producing nations (e.g. gasoline in Saudi Arabia now costs $2/gallon instead of $0.61) 4/
- An interesting note on externalities: It’s not just global warming. For coal, 69% of the cost society bears is from local pollution and the sickness that comes with it. For oil, 38% is local pollution and 36% is auto congestion/crashes 5/
(Thanks to sig at asif for this)

I’m going a little off topic here but didn’t want to start a new thread of uncertain Provence.

In the news are 2 stories about climate change activism.

First is the story from Oregon where the Democrats want to pass cap and trade legislation, they have enough votes. To stop them the Republicans have fled into hiding to deny a quorum until after June 30 when the senate dissolves.

The other is of hundreds of climate protesters in Germany entering a open air coal mine presumably to shut it down and bring attention to the cause.

Will be interesting to see how these two story lines impact public thought, if at all.

A  major study on how to limit global warming could be dropped from formal UN climate talks in Bonn this week after a “gentlemen’s agreement” was made under pressure from Saudi Arabia.

Not only is this toilet the premier exporter of terrorism and terrorist radicalization around the world, it is also succeeding at terrorism against climate science and global action on climate change. Meanwhile, western sheeple, fed lies by their fake stream media are looking for Russians under their beds.

The IPCC project is basically corrupted and releases low-ball estimates of climate change. Even though it entrains legitimate researchers to produce its reports, it, like the conductor of the orchestra, gets to spin the results and frame the scope of the research.

The Paris Climate Accords will result in an Ice-Free Arctic ocean

paris-agreement-ice-free-arctic

A new analysis suggests an Ice Free Arctic Ocean will happen under the Paris Climate Accords.

So this raises the question...... what in heck was the Paris Accords good for, other then allowing Obama to take a victory lap. The Accords allow INCREASES in CO2 emissions, there are no penalties if countries exceed their promised CO2 emissions, and most countries already are exceeding †heir promised CO2 emissions. And global temps will rise 2° C or more and the Arctic Ocean will go ice free and it will all be perfectly OK according to the Paris Climate Accords.

How exactly is having the Paris Climate Accords any different then not having them? What did they actually accomplish?

Image
Congratulations on your great success with the Paris Climate Accords, Mr. President. Now can we get a picture of you next to the ice-free Arctic Ocean your agreement allows? Thanks for nothing, you climate traitor you.

Cheers!

Plant, your enviro-guilt projection posts are boring and repetitive. I don't know who you think you're impressing here because rarely do I ever see anyone bobblehead in agreement for these sorts of offerings. But hey, an NPC doesn't care whether they have an audience. They just keep going and going like a bot.

Asg/mos/ennui, your personal attacks and ad hom posts are boring and repetitive.

You seem like a reasonably intelligent person, but I rarely see you contribute anything to these discussions other then personal attacks.

Heres a new idea for you.......how about you hold off on the personal attacks for a just a second and offer an opinion on the subject of this thread? Wow...imagine that!!! Actually commenting on the subject of the thread. Come on, asg,mos,ennui---I'm sure you can do it if you try.

What do you think of this new study that shows that the Paris Accords --- even if countries were keeping to their voluntary pledges which they aren't---- will not prevent the Arctic Ocean going Ice Free?

Apparently you just skipped over this important new study in your rush to do your usual ad hom thing. But I invite you now to offer an opinion on this new study. The link to the study is in my post above....check it out and try engaging in conversation for once. Its possible you have actually have some interesting thoughts on this....if so, lets hear them.

Cheers!

COP 25 Cancelled.

Unread postby Revi » Fri 01 Nov 2019, 08:16:34

I guess the unrest in Chile has cancelled COP 25.
It may be in another location, but nothing is scheduled yet.

They should be holding it in northern cities like Fairbanks, Alaska or Magnetogorsk, Russia where arctic amplification boosts their viewpoint. Half or more of these meetings are in year round warm zones where change is subtle at best and unnoticeable by outsiders.

That's a great point. The meeting can include a little field trip to a nearby disappearing glacier.

Greta was right to target the UN climate change treaty process. The UNCCC went off track with the passing of the worthless Paris Accords, and if they don't reschedule COP25 things will go even farther off track. COP25 was supposed to include an accounting of how badly every country in the world in the world is doing at meeting its promises made in Paris in 2015. ALL of the EU countries are failing to reach their targets.....and why should they? There are no penalties for countries who break the Paris Accords. And the EU supposedly actually cares about climate change.

report-finds-all-european-union-countries-failing-paris-climate-targets

Each year is precious. Until the UN repeals the Paris Accords and replaces it with a binding climate change treaty that requires greenhouse gas reductions, we're just going to drift into the world of ever higher greenhouse gas emissions and ever high global temperatures.

We're already entering "Fire World"....where forest fires are exploding in frequency around the world as year after year of high temps and drought turn forests into tinder boxes.

As the planet gets still hotter, even worse climate disasters are likely to occur.

Cheers!

I agree. We need some kind of international accord with some kind of binding resolution to actually cut greenhouse gas emissions or it's all a fiction. I wonder if all those countries are relieved because they can continue pretending now for the foreseeable future?
