I have noticed that also. Everything here in NW England is also "growing like mad" - faster this year than most previous - but I've also maintained that plant growth this last 20 years or so is gradually accelerating year on year over here. (certainly in my garden).

CO2 increase coupled with a warmer climate ? Probably.

Can we reverse this by cutting CO2, emissions etc ? Probably not.

Time will tell.

Careful there folks, you are challenging the canon of AGW and the climate change Puritans will cast you out of the community of AGW fanaticism if you note the greening of the planet or other negative feedbacks that moderate the effect of GHGs.

You see, in the world of climate fanaticism, everybody must only discuss positve feedbacks that accelerate warming. You must carefully exclude all contrary evidence and datasets, while insisting that your closed mind is "Scientific".

Ha,ha. Would it be OK if we used an electric mower? And compost the clippings :)

That's just what I use / do. Cuttings go with other compostable waste (food scraps in biodegradeable bags) into the green wheelie bin collected by the council every 2 weeks. We also have a blue bin for cardboard / paper, a brown bin for glass / cans / plastic and a black bin for non recycleable waste.

System works well, a credit to our local Town council.

There are also factors that are not in our favor. Such as sea level rise:

Ask nearly anyone in the Miami area about flooding and they’ll have an anecdote to share. Many will also tell you that it’s happening more and more frequently. The data backs them up. It’s easy to think that the only communities suffering from sea level rise are far-flung and remote. And while places like the Solomon Islands and Kiribati are indeed facing particularly dramatic challenges, they aren’t the only ones being forced to grapple with the issue. Sea levels are rising around the world, and in the US, south Florida is ground zero – as much for the adaptation strategies it is attempting as for the risk that it bears.

Water levels here are rising especially quickly. With tides higher than they have been in decades – and far higher than when this swampy, tropical corner of the US began to be drained and built on a century ago – many of south Florida’s drainage systems and seawalls are no longer enough. That means not only more flooding, but challenges for the infrastructure that residents depend on every day, from septic tanks to wells. “The consequences of sea level rise are going to occur way before the high tide reaches your doorstep.”

Look beyond all the glass and steel, though, and – despite the federal government’s sidelining of the issue – there’s another thrum of activity. It’s the wastewater treatment plant constructing new buildings five feet higher than the old ones. The 105 miles (169km) of roads being raised in Miami Beach. The new shopping mall built with flood gates. The 116 tidal valves installed in Fort Lauderdale. The seawalls being raised and repaired.

Not only are sea levels rising, but the pace seems to be accelerating. Coastal communities are already experiencing more storms and extremely high tides known as king tides. In the same study, Wdowinski found there were a total of 16 flood events in Miami Beach from 1998 to 2005. From 2006 to 2013, there were 33.

Although the timing of king tides results from the positions of the Sun, Moon and Earth, rising seas heighten their effect. At extreme high tides, water levels have surged to an inch below the Intracoastal Waterway, says Jennifer Jurado, Broward County’s chief resiliency officer. “Once that’s breached, you’re open to the ocean – the supply of water is endless.
Miami’s fight against rising seas

And this has implications beyond just flooding:
Although flooding is the obvious consequence of rising sea levels, there are plenty of other effects to consider — none of them good.

It will contaminate our drinking water
As the rising sea crawls farther and farther up the shore, in many places it will seep into the freshwater sources in the ground that many coastal areas rely on for their drinking water. These underground water sources, called aquifers, are crucial springs of freshwater — in fact, groundwater accounts for most of the planet's freshwater.

It will interfere with farming
Those same freshwater sources we use for drinking also supply the water we use for irrigation. The problems here are the same: The intruding sea could make these groundwater sources saltier. Saltwater can stunt or even kill crops, but creating freshwater from saltwater is a costly and unsustainable practice.

It will hurt the economy
The tourism and real-estate industries in coastal areas are likely to take a hit as prime beachfront properties and recreational areas are washed away by rising waters.
Sea-level rise will cause more than flooding — these 5 other impacts of rising oceans are just as bad
The oil barrel is half-full.

Hundreds march in Berlin to demand an end to using coal

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nati ... story.html

Hundreds of protesters are marching through the German capital to demand an end to burning coal to produce electricity.

The demonstrators — many of them families pushing strollers, people on bikes and samba bands — walked through the Berlin's government district on Sunday, ahead of next week's first meeting of Germany's commission on exiting coal use...

Activists clash with police in Germany over occupation of ancient forest
By Judith Vonberg and Nadine Schmidt, CNN

Updated 1507 GMT (2307 HKT) September 13, 2018
RWE runs an open-pit coal mine near the Hambach Forest in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The operation launched by police there Thursday morinng marks a pivotal moment in the country's battle between green energy and coal-powered plants, which produce almost 40% of Germany's electricity, according to Eurostat.
The 12,000-year-old Hambach Forest, which is owned by RWE, has shrunk to less than 10% of its original size since the company began razing sections of it four decades ago, according to estimates by RWE and environmental activists.

Let us also remember that in the name of "Green Energy", Germany and other EU countries are buying shiploads of wood chips from Canada, causing the clearcutting of forests to replace the energy supplies lost from their nuclear power plants.

Burning wood chips in a power plant designed for hard coals actually produces MORE harmful GHG's than does coal. It's also a "double whammy" because they are burning forest biomass and making GHG's. However, it is compliant with the EU's "Green Energy" rules.

Will the German "Judikative" save us from "our" failed polititians and corrupt energy=bankster system?

https://www.zeit.de/gesellschaft/zeitge ... dungsstopp

https://www.greenpeace.org/internationa ... an-merkel/

Dear Chancellor Merkel,

The world is watching as the conflict around the Hambach forest, neighbouring villages and coal mine is escalating. The recent actions by the government of North Rhine-Westphalia on behalf of coal energy company RWE have only further fuelled the conflict. Now instead of thousands, tens of thousands of people are peacefully demonstrating each week against the irresponsible behaviour of RWE and the regional government.....

FIGHTING FOR THE FOREST

Cruelty to animals [(<=> forest) M_B_S]
Kant derived a prohibition against cruelty to animals by arguing that such cruelty is a violation of a duty in relation to oneself. According to Kant, man has the imperfect duty to strengthen the feeling of compassion, since this feeling promotes morality in relation to other human beings. However, cruelty to animals deadens the feeling of compassion in man. Therefore, man is obliged not to treat animals brutally (Kant, Metaphysics of Morals, § 17).

Scientists say halting deforestation 'just as urgent' as reducing emissions
Protecting and restoring forests would reduce 18% of emissions by 2030 and help to avoid global temperature rise beyond 1.5C

Fighting for survival isnt easy but if we dont fight a mass extinction is the only logical outcome.

Plenty of peaceful demonstrations in Germany and few hundreds of new Muslims are coming in every day.
Now they say that every refugee will be able to bring his family too (means up to 4 wives, 25 children, parents and wives parents, 60 brothers, sisters, uncles and anties, 300 of their kids etc).
So these peaceful demonstrations don't seem to work and governor Merckel got renominated regardless...
Perhaps Germans need to plea to Erdogan directly, if anything is to be done...
Maybe future Caliph will be more symphatetic to his new subjects?
Allah is merciful after all and he must care about Germans too if noone else does! :)

Merkel's Folly: Erratic German Wind Power

Always informative to check on German power production, this week they have had a couple of big wind days where wind generated over 35GW but 2 days later it's only generating 5GW, and what little Solar power there is, is dropping every day with the change in season. With this unreliable power mix the Germans will always need backup systems, basically building two types of power systems to get one stable output. And without nukes its coal coal coal for Germany.

Hambi bleibt! https://hambachforest.org/?noredirect=en_US

Hambacher forest can stay - uprooting is banned by country court. Details about the topic here: https://www.dw.com/de/hambacher-forst-v ... a-45619111

This may be a first victory against the excessive lignite burning in Germany. There is a hope that "Hambi" could become a symbol just like Gorleben and Wackersdorf have been in the eighties in the preparation of the exit from nuclear. However, it took about 10-20 year for nuclear (until 2002) and it maybe necessary that the green party needs to be in government again to get that job done. But at least they are on the rise (maybe ~18% next week in Bavaria?).

Nevertheless today is party time! ;D 20 000 people are expected today https://www.merkur.de/politik/ersten-si ... 60530.html and the weather is fine

Merkels next blow to Germanys air pollution

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... hicle-bans

Panic in Merkels Team as next elections in "Hessen" could cost many of their/her job(s)!

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she’ll seek to amend German anti-pollution laws to avoid driving bans for diesel vehicles in cities where harmful nitrogen-oxide emissions are just slightly above the limit.

The proposal would include Frankfurt, the biggest city in the Hesse region, where polls suggest her Christian Democratic Union party is headed for losses in a state election on Sunday. Later Monday, Merkel begins her final campaign tour in the state, where prospective diesel-driving bans have become a critical issue.

**************

So we learned Merkel will allow pollute the air in Hessen only to stay in power. :x
